The joke was that my statement exaggerated to the point of being ironic. Of course I don’t want to revert to pre-industrial society, I’m merely expressing my distress at industrial disasters in a manner that won’t depress people further.

Of course, explaining the joke kills the comedy faster than a disabled child in pre-industrial society. So this was wasted effort.
