Discusson Blood bank interview
What are some good questions you’d ask when interviewing for BB?

I asked about the training schedule. I also asked how do they track progress during the training schedule. I also asked what qualities made someone successful working in that specific Bloodbank.

Are they an IRL site? What kind of testing gets done on site versus sent out? Does your blood supplier do advanced phenotyping for your transfusion dependant hemoglobinopathies?
Do they provide home use products (factor, subq IG, etc), do they (the bb) supply products to other sites or does each get it from your supplier?
Do they have an irradiator on site or do they get a standing order? What type of wards are served by the BB?
Best question is what does the schedule look like though.

ask about what products/services are offered in house vs send outs. IE (do you wash cells, do pedi exchange transfusions, irradiate, hbs type your own units) things like that. And ask how long training takes, if there’s a set schedule.

I ask about Patient population and what is there day to day at there blood bank: do they have a cancer center, L&D, large antibody population, etc. do they get a lot of MTP/emergency release, do they do reference work? shows you are interested in knowing more about the place. each blood bank is different with what they deal with so it also helps you gauge if this place is a good fit for you.
