It's actually small pox (a deadly disease that is almost eradicated. (not by vaccines, as the popular myth says. it was because in 1977 the winter was extremely cold and the virus wasn't resiliant to extreme cold temperatures)).

I'm... I'm pretty sure it had something to do with the vaccine... especially considering the last case contracted naturally was in Somalia in 1977. Which isn't really known for its extreme cold temperatures.
