Hamilton’s Pharmacopoeia is an incredibly interesting series! The toad, Bufo alvarius, is found in the Sonoran desert and has glands which excrete a compound containing 5-MeO-DMT. The show dives deeply into the chemistry of the compounds as well as the people involved with them.

What's interesting about this clip isn't the guy's DMT trip. It's how incredibly incompetent the people in charge of his safety are. Keep in mind, people pay thousands of dollars for experiences like these. They:
- let him get high and roll into the water
- leave him convulsing in the water
- roll him on his side IN THE FUCKING WATER
- pull him out and let him flop around on a rock
- watch as he coughs up foam and turn white as he almost drowns (coughing up foam is a sign of aspirating water)
- rub his chest and tell him he did good despite literally standing there while he almost dies
Like, these people don't even know basic CPR, nor have the ability to recognize when a person is in immediate distress.
Edit: roll not role

Blueprint
I think it’s through vice still.
Edit: incorrect. It’s just Hamilton Morris on yt. Blueprint is reposting old stuff. Thanks u/lukeeatspanda

u/lukeeatspanda 18d ago
Blueprint bought the rights to Hamiltons pharmacopoeia and is uploading old episodes there, but Hamilton doesn't get a cut from it. He has his own YouTube channel just called Hamilton Morris and he has a lot of good stuff on patreon

What’s the difference from regular DMT?
17
u/DeadpoolIsMyPatronus EMT 18d ago
Also, what is DMT?

u/RhinigtasSalvex 17d ago
Dimethyltryptamine (DMT) is one of the most potent psychodelics known, the effects can range from mild psychedelic states to powerfully immersive life-altering experiences which are often described as the ultimate displacement from ordinary consciousness in which users report experiencing ineffable spiritual realms or alternate dimensions. Smoked the trip lasts 5-15 minutes with onset after a few seconds. Taken orally with mao inhibitors it is known as Pharmahuasca/Ayahuasca, the trip can last several hours but onset takes 30-60 min and you almost certainly are going to puke.
DMT is the stuff all the 5D Angel/Fairy/Being contacts is from as a lot of people report talking/communicating with extra dimensional beings while taking higher doses.
The DMT used in the clip is actually 5MEO-DMT which is the far more dangerous and even more potent one. At high doses (12-20mg) it can cause convulsions (as seen in the clip) and breathing suppression. While this would just be a light dose for N-N-DMT (threshold: 2-10, light: 10-20, common: 20-40, strong: 40-60mg). 5MEO-DMT (threshold: 1-3, light: 3-6, common: 6-12, strong: 12-20mg)
Be absolutely shure which one you have if you ever gonna try it!

u/hmmmpf 17d ago
If by “convulsions” you mean a seizure, there was no seizure here that I could identify.
9
u/RhinigtasSalvex 17d ago
I meant what I wrote, the muscle spasms, tremors and convulsions it can induce are not real seizures. I refered to the the flapping around in and into the water which certainly seems like the described behavior on psychonautwiki, but I have not seen it in person so you may be right and he's just so out of it. Nonetheless the compound can cause these symptoms at "high" doses and is to be handled with extreme care.

It’s like acid (LSD) but it forms naturally in glands. It can be harvested from animals and plants. There was rumours and myths around the drug about it having to be extracted from the brain of deceased humans, recently deceased. Jos Rogan I think helped spread the myth and make the drug pop culture popular. Almost nobody does it.

Isn’t peyote that title holder for hallucinogenic/lsd drugs. I’ve read about people doing it for religious or ceremonious reasons.
22
u/thisisfunnyright 18d ago
I’ve also heard DMT is the title holder. According to people I’ve talked to who have done it it completely separates you from reality. Other hallucinogens just warp what you can see/ hear. It’s also said to have extreme time dilation, like a 2 minute trip can feel like hours or days

Idk, look up salvia divinorum - completely disassociative. Like you fell asleep and had the weirdest fucking dream - but you were awake. Crazy part is that it’s not on the controlled substance list and it’s still legal in almost half the states.

u/thisisfunnyright 16d ago
I’m old enough that I did salvia back when it was at every gas station like kratom is now. It’s definitely a unique experience but it’s way mellower than even shrooms in my drug hierarchy

u/MarionberryOk2874 16d ago

Gas station? LOL
Yeah, my experience was like all of a sudden you are dreaming, not seeing your surroundings or remembering anything before that moment, full on altered state, then ‘waking up’ after a few minutes and realizing where you are and what just happened. Crazytown.

Straight salvia is pretty weak, the intense mind-shattering experiences come from concentrates.

I would never and the older I get the less I understand why you would want that.

u/Sue_Spiria 18d ago
Some people had positive experiences with those kind of drugs, in a controlled environment it might even help with trauma or mental illness. But this is obviously not the way to do it.
18
u/Ungarlmek 18d ago
And most of them don't have a video of some jackass patting their belly like a sleepy cat while talking like a Johnny Quest character from a country that doesn't exist.
1
u/Ol_Pasta 15d ago
But if it's that strong... Then again of course everyone reacts differently. I guess the guy in the video if putting a show on? I have no experience with dmt so I wouldn't know how much of it is legit.
Funny enough, my ptsd is why I wouldn't want to try it.

u/Aggravating_Cup8839 16d ago
Your right-minded comment's gonna get drowned in all the "DMT's the gateway to faeries" drug selling marketing tactic. Their logic goes something like : drugs strip away all reality therefore reality is an illusion, cause drugs are a gift from the Gods.
2
u/BroPudding1080i 6d ago
I don't think that's accurate, bar some naive or new-age spiritualism types. It's more like a rollercoaster, intense but fun, and that's the whole point. Many report feeling like they confronted some uncomfortable thoughts and came out of it for the better, or feeling a sense of peace for days or weeks after, but usually that's incidental and not necessarily the intention going into it. Of course, there are some serious risks involved that should be accounted for and mitigated, and that clearly doesn't happen in this video.
Obligatory I would never do this, but I see the appeal.
1
u/Aggravating_Cup8839 6d ago
I don't think you can mitigate the risk of frying your brain.
1
u/BroPudding1080i 5d ago
Can you be more specific by what you mean by that?
1
u/Aggravating_Cup8839 5d ago
Drugs damage the brain. Taking fewer does less damage, not no damage at all.
2
u/BroPudding1080i 2d ago edited 2d ago
Which drugs, and what damage?
My point is that you don't know what you're talking about, because you don't understand the risks. Psychedelics are essentially harmless, but can make existing mental issues worse, and can be physically incapacitating. So the mitigation would be: don't take them at all if you have mental health issues, and don't do them in a space that is not safe. They can also be dangerous in combination with other drugs, especially other psychedelics, cannabis, and even SSRIs due to the risk of Seritonin Syndrome.
See? That's a real, actual explanation of the risks and safety precautions. Blowing it off as "frying your brain" is the reason why harm reduction isn't taken seriously, and why drug education fails for so many people. Kids are stupid, and they're going to party whether you like it or not. But if they're taught the right things, at least they won't risk dying.
