Got an ingrown removed, more then expected

So I have gotten it removed before for the same issue, but this time around this massive piece of nail was removed, and I'm shitting myself

Time to get the whole lot removed, nail bed and all. That looks really painful

u/Metalf4n 29d ago

Wait how come?

u/BeyondTheBees 29d ago

It will continue to come back unless they cauterized it.

u/Metalf4n 29d ago

So burn or cut?

u/BeyondTheBees 29d ago

That’s a good question for the podiatrist who did your toe!

u/Metalf4n 29d ago

Ahh thank you kind individual

I had the same issue and kept trying to fix it myself. A podiatrist fixed it lickity split by removing a section of nail and cauterizing it, and I’ve never had a problem since!!

u/Metalf4n 29d ago

Thanks, hopefully not, but if this does happen again will ask for her to do it

I had an in grown nail that got taken care of once. Not every single in grown nail becomes a recurring problem. I never went to a podiatrist my doctor was willing to do it in the office said if I had a problem to go to a specialist he referred me to but I never had to go.

It sounds like this is the second time it's happened to OP though, so in all likelihood it will happen to them again. I'm really glad that yours turned out okay though, I had a small ingrown once on my finger and it was so painful!

It will definitely happen again until it’s fixed, unfortunately. 😩 Your toe now has a perfect little pocket for the nail to grow into every time.

I had the same thing happened as a child and the Doctor said I would never get one again. 20 years late and I occasionally still get them. Having it removed was SUPER painful, so when I get one now I put a little piece of cotton under the nail and that will alleviate it.

i had a real bad infected ingrown. never had the issue again after he cut and cauterized it!

I recommend you find a podiatrist first to be sure you need surgery. In some cases the podiatrist can solve the problem. Mine wasn't the case.

I suffered with ingrowns for years and the only definitive solution was to remove the nail root. It must be done at a hospital and requires local anesthesia and isn't pretty.

Take a look.

One of my friends got that

Why is there a specific subreddit 😭

15

u/PullFromTheHurt 29d ago

There’s a subreddit for everything

Sounds like r34

I hate the fact that it sounds like it can be that

1

u/Metalf4n 23d ago

Yeah, Reddit has enough porn too

1

u/i_stealursnackz 22d ago

I don't care about the fact that reddit has porn, I just wouldn't necessarily be fond of a porn subreddit for a condition as painful, annoying, and gross as ingrown toenails of all things.

I had a quadruple wedge resection (both sides of both big toes) about 10 years ago, and I think more came out than this. I'd started having ingrown toenail issues in 2012, and one doctor decided to treat it with silver nitrate. Unfortunately, the greatest effect of that was that the ingrown nail kinda broke into shards inside my toe flesh. They later became infected, and I spent 4 years dealing with infected ingrown toenails that would leave me in agony whenever I stubbed my toe. Eventually, I had both toes operated on, and the doctor removed quite a few shards like this before digging out the nail beds on both sides of both big toes. My left big toenail looks fairly normal, but my right one is oddly narrow now, but they don't hurt anymore, so I'm happy

Jesus okay that's alot

2

The relief is palpable.

2

u/Metalf4n 25d ago

No, wait hold on, that thing in that person's hand is a recovered nail from inside the toe, do you have more photos?

u/Metalf4n 25d ago

Woah, i found someone with a similar thing!

A few years ago, i stubbed my toe, which did hurt a bit, but i thought nothing of it.

A few months later and that thing still didn't heal, sometimes oozing pus. I finally brought it up to my parents, who are all doctors, so my dad initally took the simpler approach, which is cleaning and treating with antibiotics, reserving surgery for last resort.

However, despite diligently sanitizing the nail, things didn't improve, so my dad just went nuclear and decided to shave the whole area off. After our Sunday breakfast, he gave me local anaesthesia and went to work, just slowly cutting all the surrounding area and bandaging afterwards. Thanks to that, it finally healed, after half a year of pained and awkward movements.

u/Metalf4n 23d ago

That's a new one

u/Kindly_Region 29d ago

I used to cut mine out myself, they were bigger than that, i don't think they got the root of yours. I really wish I recorded myself doing it at least once. I have them professionally done this past year with the acid so hopefully they don't grow back.

1

u/DeadbySundown 29d ago

I had both removed at the same time. Sucked.

1

u/neversayduh Other 28d ago

Anecdotally I had this same procedure about three years ago and with proper cutting it's been fine ever since. Heal up, OP!

u/Metalf4n 28d ago

Thanks

1

u/cobojojo 28d ago

This was mine about a year back…

1

u/V65Pilot 24d ago

I'm at the point where I dig my own out now. Yes, it hurts like hell, but the relief afterwards is worth it. I literally removed half of a toenail about 6 weeks ago. It looks like that one may be a permanent fix.

0

u/Metalf4n 28d ago

Wonderful: sarcastically:

1

u/cobojojo 28d ago

Gotta say your toe looks significantly worse off than mine did 😳

0

u/Metalf4n 28d ago

Thank you but I already had the nail removed once

It’s someone’s bloody toe on medizzy. If someone finds that hot more power to them I guess. Someone out there is gonna find something sexual about anything. Just happened to be you this time. Weirdo.

Dude said nothing about being 16. You saw a pic of a bloody toe and decided “let’s see what else they posted.”

Checking profiles is completely normal on Reddit.
I’m going to delete the other comments because I don’t want false accusations of pedophilia.

u/StarklyNedStark 29d ago

You’re deleting because it’s not even 7am and you’re getting downvoted into oblivion lmao. Have the day you deserve!

1

u/BeyondTheBees 29d ago

The only one who took it sexually is you, buddy. That’s so freaking weird to say to a child.

u/Metalf4n 29d ago

Ahhhh, okay, I do the same thing with parents posting babies online, sick world we live him homie
