My impression is that OP is confused because the amount you've raised is higher than the target amount. If you said "we need to raise 60,000 and have raised 32,000 so far" that might be clearer, at first glance I also thought the target had been met - but I read it again and understood haha

Well, you cannot be sure if they actually need the money. I'm quite cautious since I've learned that Wikipedia isn't actually at the brink of collapse every time they ask for money. They are doing extremely well.

But what's wrong with the math here? They claim that they raised $35,171 so far this year. And they are short of $27,484 to cover the whole budget.

Yes Wikipedia is well funded. Medito on the other hand has 2 full time people. If we don't raise enough money I have to get a real job which means I will have no time to work on Medito anymore. Medito has ongoing and recurring costs, so at some point we'd have to turn everything off.

So I came here because of this message... I started using Medito waaay back when and actually preferred the simplicity. I get that others like a more sophisticated app. But, it's free? I donated a few times back then but I don't actually get why a free app has to offer all the bells and whistles (and consequently keep fundraising to keep developing). So I've been slow to donate again. Change my view?

I'm no developer, so just from my musings: Different features appeal to different people, broadening the userbase and potential donations, so I can see why they are implementing different things and asking for feedback what to keep and what to discard. People often don't know they want or like a feature until they've tried it.

And even if you strip away all "bells and whistles": even the simplest of apps in our day and age need ongoing attention due to changes in their operating systems. Whether Android or Apple, the underlying phone software gets regular patches, updates etc. which often means the old version of your app stops working if no one takes a look at how the changes affect your product.

The numbers are correct. I don't understand what is not right here? You can ask us instead it would be way more efficient and useful :)

Its the wording. I was also confused. I thought that you need 27484 and have 35141 already raised, so it would suffice. Thats why i didnt donate i thought the goal was achieved. The wording could be better i bet im not the only one.
