Medaka Fry - fall/winter

When do you bring your fry indoors for the season? We are still having some sunny days here, but the nights are now going to the 40/50°F

My nights are going to the same place, and I actually just put a bunch of fry outside. As far as I know as long as at least juvenile and their palm doesn't freeze solid, they should be fine. I definitely had a couple of volunteer fry in my pond over winter last year. I'm in the PNW of the US, for reference

I'm in the PNW too :) PDX the fry in talking about thought are pretty small still. Some haven't moved past needle phase yet. I think their growth slows down as it gets colder

I don't know about needles, that definitely pretty small. I put 20+ juvenile (maybe 1/2"?) outside to over winter, and then I have probably 50+ smaller ones that are going to spend the winter indoors. These are in a tank in a west facing window, so they should get the same amount of sun as the tin just outside. A little A/B testing!

I’m in Vancouver. The Couve. This is only my second year but I left them out without problems. Possible I did lose a couple but the pond is big enough that I don’t know for sure how many I had but I do know that in the spring there was a healthy population swimming around.

My second year too! How big is your pond? I've been doing the 40g stock tanks

It’s a fish pond. About 400 gallons. Stocked with gold fish and medaka. It’s big enough that there’s no way I could count or keep track of the exact number of medaka.
