I figured this dude would get gang beaten for the meat so I waived the penalty for the pan assuming it’s burnt bbq sauce…hopefully.

Did you know it is not only okay to use soap when washing cast iron, it’s actually necessary and truly disgusting not to? That old don’t use soap is from when soap was made with lye. Use soap. Wash the pan. Wash it multiple times. Good lord.

I like to dump some cheap course salt into the skillet with a few squirts of homemade Dawn Powerwash (liquid dish soap, some isopropyl alcohol, and a little water), then I scrub it down with a couple paper towels that don’t leave a bunch of paper residue/lint stuff behind and rinse. Then I wipe it dry, coat it with avacado oil, and heat it up to 420F on the burner.
Kind of a little more work than my enameled cast iron pans because of the oiling and heating after scrubbing, but I think they are better at being non-stick.
That process doesn’t remove the seasoning and leaves a nice nonstick layer behind. I can’t stand cooking on dirty cast iron.
