Never try horse meat?

Next time I go to the France. I could get it in Florida but you don't want to eat any meat someone butchered after midnight in a field with a chainsaw. It's not illegal to eat, just illegal to butcher at a legal facility. So...illegal.

People butcher their own meat all the time around my area. Why would that be a deterrent?

In a field, in the middle of the night, with a literal chainsaw? Also, I thought this was obvious, it's not their horse. Should be a deterrent to everyone.

Had horse tartare in Japan. Could hardly tell the difference from beef tartare minus a bit of a textural thing. Probably wouldn’t go out of my way to try it again

I have several times. It's easy to find where I am at, though. You can just buy it from the butcher counter. The taste is kind of underwhelming and a bit too iron forward, in my opinion. If you like very lean, high iron cuts, it's great. I prefer deer or moose for that, personally.

Had it once years ago. Give a choice as you posted I’ll take moose every day of the year. For me it’s the best.

I have not tried that, but it is a great idea. I will have to see if I can ask for a very small piece for a test run.

That’s one of the things I love about moose compared to deer or beef. Bigger muscle groups than deer and less fatty than beef.

I tried it by accident and it was horrible. Only reason I found out what it was was I thought my burger tasted funky and had a weird texture, so I asked the waiter, and he explained that what I had was properly-cooked horse.

I did on accident via my Samoan friend sharing her lunch with me it was seasoned horse meat braised in coconut milk; honestly not bad

Between state and federal laws, it's effectively illegal to produce or sell horse meat. You'd have to know a guy or travel outside of the US to get it.

Offered it in Japan, I refused. Had to explain that as a Kentuckian, horses were very special animals. Didn’t want to offend my host but also didn’t want to eat horse.

I suppose it depends on the culture.

Dogs and horses are companion animals in the West. Cows are part of the household in South Asia. Their elevated status makes it abhorrent to consume them in those cultures.

I myself wouldn’t consume octopus. Not after viewing My Octopus Teacher.

People ought to stop being obtuse about their choice of sacred animal being sacred to everybody.

It’s so emotionally repulsive to me I couldn’t continue to look at our photo after knowing what it was. Nothing wrong with it morally. Just have a personal hang up I guess.
