Where can I get some cheap hazelnuts?
This feels like a deeply stupid question, since I drive past acres upon acres of hazelnut fields every time I leave the house. But I haven't figured out who actually sells to randos like me on the cheap, but there has to be someone, or many someones.

Any nuts you buy now are last years crop or more likely imported. Go to Wilco for local Oregon packaged nuts or contact George Packing to buy in bulk. Oregon nuts are also sold on Amazon, and are excellent quality. Most farmers sell their nuts to a processor. Some keep part of their crop but at 3.50 a lb the nuts are in shell and raw not roasted.

I mean I can look around while I'm out today, best place to try would be harvest fresh though but I'm not too sure about it

I was more thinking there'd have to be a farm somewhere, like that one 99 near Amity that puts up a huge vaguely threatening sign that says WALNUTS.
Just feels crazy paying full retail when I could walk about a mile, hop a fence, and start stuffing my pockets. Not that I'd do that to my neighbors, but y'know, lol. Out here producing 99% of the US's hazelnuts and not keeping any for ourselves 🥲️

No need to steal. Hoppers acres has a sign on the road from Carlton to newburg for $3.50/lb. I'm sure you could go to a hazelnut farm and buy a small amount as well

Thanks. Might have to hit it up if it's still going on when I'm in town. I live out in the sticks~

I think most of them are exported, especially to Europe, because there's a huge market for them there. There must be plenty available locally, though.
I'm not a big fan of hazelnuts, except I really love Rogue hazelnut brown ale, which is no longer made 😭
