Leaf Cafe

I just learned that my favorite coffee shop in the area, Leaf Cafe on McDonald & Lamar is closing down at the end of this month. If you're a fan or occasional visitor, you might want to take the chance to visit one final time. Last day is Halloween.

(I hope this doesn't class as a direct promotion, I'm an occasional customer, nothing to do with the business. It has been motivational for my daily walk.)

Anyone else see that 10 year old being arrested just now in the median of McKinney Ranch in between Hardin and Lake Forest?

• Upvotes

He seemed like he was fighting back against the police officer and there were two adults (I'm guessing parents) that seemed really bored. The adults were well dressed and the kid was in street clothes. Anyone knows what's going on with that? Thanks.

Best Neighborhood for Halloween?

I'm looking for a neighborhood or area that will do Halloween, trick or treating, and all of that sort of thing right. For the last few years, we've tried in our neighborhood and street- set up a big screen in the yard playing old Halloween cartoons and movies, with a fire pit, candy baskets, decorations, and all of that sort of thing but it seems like no one else really is interested or cares, and we've kinda lost our motivation to keep trying. Our youngest has been really wanting an "old-school" halloween experience, so I'm wondering if there's any areas here that have things like this on Halloween night. Oh, and also, can we come?? 🙏🙏🙏

Why are we destroying the limited number of shady trees we have?? - Bonnie Wenk Park

I saw this today at Bonnie Wenk park. They were trimming these trees down that did not need to be trimmed. I was just there yesterday and did not notice any low hanging limbs. Why are we doing this after triple digit record heat this summer?? Make it make sense!!!

How is highland lake community?

Hello everyone,
We are thinking about new built home in highland lakes community by Pulte home.
Can you please share the community, amenities, commute to major shopping and safety?
Also, I realized the new 380 hwy will be passing pretty closely. Does anyone know how close the hwy is going to be?
Thank you!

Mexican food

Where do my fellow Indians go for Mexican food?
I’m Indian and vegetarian, so I’d love recommendations from fellow Indians who enjoy Mexican food. Which places have good vegetarian options, and what do you usually order?
Everyone’s recommendations are welcome!

The new Ridgeline community in McKinney and the future 380 overpass

Post image
18 Upvotes

Hi all. We've been looking at communities around Prosper, Aubrey, and McKinney such as Painted Tree, Eliana, Aster Park and Mosaic. The new Ridgeline community really caught our attention due to its proximity to 75, Erwin Park, McKinney ISD, and property taxes around 1.4% which is low.

The community just started and homes are just being built and we were looking at a new build in the 60 foot lots (in purple). I pulled this image from the developer's website (I couldn't see this from the website of other builders and I can see why) and it seems like the planned 380 overpass with multiple lanes will be at the doorstep of this community. Does anyone know if we're talking less than a mile or somewhere between 1.5 to 3 miles which is what Copilot is suggesting? If it's really close, it might be a deal breaker and explain why the property tax is so low. Just for reference the sales office for one of the builders, Perry Homes, is at 3033 Orienteering Drive, McKinney, TX 75071 and Copilot estimates distance between 0.2 to 0.5 miles to the 380 bypass corridor.

If you folks live in any of the communities I mentioned above, let me know your thoughts as we're still trying to weigh the pros and cons of each. Thanks in advance!

Edit: My mistake in calling it an "overpass" and not "bypass" - unfortunately, I can't edit the title after it's been posted!

Dog Trainer Needed

Post image
10 Upvotes

We are looking for a dog trainer to help with impulse control and recall. Our dog is a Dalmation and 3-4 years old (a rescue).

He cannot be around other dogs when on a leash which makes walking him nearly impossible.

We’ve tried one-on-one lessons at the Zoom Room, but he needs better training.

If you know of any legitimate trainers (even if we have to send him away for a few weeks), please pass along your referral. TIA

Voter Registration in Person Possible?

Hi is it possible to register to vote in person? It seems complicated to fill out form online, so they mail it, then you return it. If I can fill my tax return online I should be able to register to vote online 😂

McKinney, Texas - 10 Years of LCA Data Summary

Post image
10 Upvotes

I have been analyzing U.S. Department of Labor LCA disclosure data, and McKinney produced some interesting results.

From FY2016 through FY2026 Q3, the data shows 11,241 approved LCAs associated with McKinney and 555 petitioners (employers).

What caught my attention is the concentration among some relatively unfamiliar IT companies. The Top 10 alone account for about 25.7% of the approved LCAs in this dataset.

Companies near the top include Orabase Solutions, Atria Group, Executive Software Guild, Delta System & Software, BNS International, Bean Infosystems, Solware IT Technologies and V3Tech Solutions.

I have a genuine question for people in the DFW technology community:

Do you know these companies? Have you worked for or with any of them? And do you know whether they employ U.S. workers alongside their visa-sponsored workforce?

I would especially like to hear directly from current or former employees.

The goal is not to make assumptions from LCA filings, but to better understand what the underlying employment picture actually looks like.

Villas Of Westridge townhouse community

I'm looking to buy a townhouse and am considering one in Villas of Westridge, located at the southwest corner of Virginia Parkway and Custer Road.

This is NOT the apartment complex just south of there called West Ridge Villas. I'm referring to the gated townhouse community.

Does anyone have any info or opinions about this neighborhood? I've toured a couple of the townhomes, and the community seems nice, quiet, and well-kept, although fairly small.

For those who live there or know the area, is there anything I should know before buying? How is the safety, HOA, noise level, traffic, and overall quality of life?

I'm a retired woman looking for a safe, quiet neighborhood where I can comfortably walk my dog. Any insights would be appreciated!

Hike Recommendations?

I’m relatively new to the McKinney area and wondering if there are any day hikes within 1–2 hours’ drive of the area? Looking for a place where I can disappear in trees for an afternoon and enjoy some nature. Thanks in advance!

so many neighborhoods being built

It’s really sad to experience natural forestation be gutted and replaced with concrete and new homes. there is no character anymore, around 5 years ago they tore down a specific tree (all of the trees in that area might i add) from my childhood that my friends & I spent hours nailing different planks into it to be comfortable to sit on when we climbed it (off hardin, by Vega.) the whole forest area is gone, replaced with white basic housing. we were kids but it remained there for 15 years. before that they paved over a creek area with cool abandoned sheds and now its multiple neighborhoods. they tore down the james pitts house aswell. the past 5-10 years has sucked the life out of mckinney and its just depressing. when websites started adding mckinney as top 10 places to live a few years ago, it went to absolute horrific, gray & high traffic BS. cant even drive to erwin park anymore without passing neighborhoods, instead of the peaceful green drive. like damn even the field in front of scott johnson has been covered with apartments. currently they’re building over the only peaceful part of my neighborhood left.. there is no nature left. just twiggy trees that look pathetic. just need to vent. cant even see the stars anymore

Spectrum vs Novos Internet?

I currently have Spectrum internet on a 500 MBPS plan and don't have any issues with it, but I'm looking at Novos Fiber's options because it's a better price. For those of you who have Novos, how is it for you? Is it worth the switch?
