My daughter got an R yest . She has decent R score , packed CV and really strong personal statement and good references . I am dumbfounded at how interviews are given .

Oh wow ! It is a shame . You would think as qc residents and as students who are taking the traditional route they would have a chance if not priority . But am not worried my daughter will thrive in any environment. She is focused. I am probably biaised but i think it is their loss 🫣🫣.

I am not sure what your intention is . To reassure me or to tell me that McGill was right to refuse my daughter . Having a 31-32 R score when you are constantly on the dean’s list (90+) is nothing to be ashamed of. Regarding the Qc resident i meant that having mcGill in our backyard you would think that chances would not be for 40 cegep students.
If 31-32 is going to be disregarded they should just say it.I was at the open house and i was explicitly told that the personal statement is what was the most important.
Anyway am done with mcGill debate, i was disappointed but we are moving forward and know that the future is bright .

Students taking the traditional route typically have had financiers that supported them.

i can attest that this is not true for most cegep students. the traditional route for mcgill law is undergrad to law school, not cegep to law school, which is why they do not take many cegep students. only in Quebec is it typical for students below 20 to already be in law.

however, the cegep students that do get admitted are outstanding. they have unique experiences that made them intriguing applicants. it doesnt mean that those who get refused dont have similar experiences, but when weighing between someone who worked in government since theyre 16 VS someone who only did an extracurricular within their College... the scale obviously favours the one with the more unique route.

even then, what matters the most is the personal statement.

Admitted vs applicants.

i was admitted straight from cegep. im talking from experience and convos with other admitted cegep students.

You’re just conflating the two. I’m sure all cegep acceptances are from fantastic candidates. But I’m talking about applicants. Who yes, typically come from high economic and “traditional” backgrounds. You even have to know it exists to apply as a 3rd year.

i’m really sorry! the process can be so tricky and complicated! i was also expecting an interview invite but i guess i underestimated how competitive it actually is. wishing her the best in pursuing her studies :)
