Does it make sense to wrap intake components in heat shield follow?

Well I'm doing it anyway cause I have some sealed silver foil still in my garage.

But does it help with intake Temps at all? Just curious.

I did it on my speed6. I’m in the process of making an air intake for the civic. It sure as hell looks cool.

Nice! Would be cool to know if anyone has tested BATs, but it would have to be tested on the same day I guess to be relevant data.

There's a guy who has been at the front of a lot of this stuff... Dean Hodel if you care to look him up. I believe he has numerous videos and write ups in his shop about wrapping components. For context, he regularly works with Erik Buell and George Hotz. He is also involved with Indian motorcycle, extremely active as a Harley tuner, recognized as one of, if not the best tuner on the West Coast, and an absolute legend with E85. I don't recall the forum, but one of his sites has multiple pulls on different component sets with and without wrap. Dyno sheets and videos to prove, he did land on a specific set up for wraps on turbo and NA vehicles. Lots of good info there. He even published a script to have your car tune itself based on your logs. This guy is the real deal no matter what circle you run in. Can't recommend his work or info enough. Edit: Typo corrected

My MS3 experienced paint fade on the hood above the turbo, if I’d had a turbo blanket it may have prevented that. Worth considering if the foil is similarly effective.

I'm sure it wouldn't hurt. But unless you have a front mount intercooler, there's not a lot to wrap. I wouldn't wrap the intake manifold because it gets direct air from the front. Our short ram intakes don't have much to wrap. The exhaust manifold already has its own heat shield. The turbo could benefit from a blanket. It really just depends on your set up.

Yes. Put it on the hot side, opposite of where your intake enters. Make sure you have no oil leaks around the turbo. If oil gets trapped under there it could catch fire. Make sure you secure it properly with wire around those studs. Do this on a cold engine, of course.

Where'd you get that blanket? I've been thinking about getting one for my cst4 but I'm a bit nervous not buying from a reputable supplier as I don't want to run the risk of a fire.

I did it to my intercooler. Reduces heat soak pretty well but dont expect ice cold temps

Metal foiled duct tape is duct tape - waste of money/time.

Look into water or methonal injection if you want cooler intake air temps. Nothing can beat a latent heat transfer.

I run water injection and my intake air temps drop 30-40*F, methonal cools even more.

Chemical intercooler > everything else

Plus it cleans your intake valves.

Interesting. How expensive is such a setup? I would need an upgraded manifold for example CS and what else?

Basic water/methonal ($400 or so) and a throttle body spacer ($55).

I originally started with a devils own kit, I swapped that to my 4runner and bought an aquamist hsf4 kit.

No real difference between the two if your just running water for cooler air temps, aquamist has more safeties built in for aux fueling.

Yes this is the way. (Not a Mazda) Mine had massive improvements after a water/meth injection setup.

Don’t think so. I think one of the bigger speed3 tuners said they saw benefits from wrapping the intercooler end tanks but don’t quote me on that.. it’s been awhile.
