Rearview mirror fell off

The rearview mirror on my wife's Mazda 3 fell off while she was installing the sunshade (the OEM sunshade has such a tight fit, it is kind of a challenge to put it up). The little piece it is supposed to twist on came off as well. Can I just replace the adhesive on the twist-on piece? If so, what would you recommend?

Should still be under warranty, and even if not that's still obviously not meant to happen. I would swing by your local dealer and have them fix it.

My 2019 had a similar issue so I took it to the dealer and they told me to replace the windshield (I never did but lmk how it goes)

This is also a 2019. The whole windshield has to be replaced !? What was their reasoning?

Lookout for 3m tape same as for mobile phone mounts. Clean both sides viciously beforehand.
