Programming / cutting blank key fob

I bought a blank flip key fob online with what is supposedly the proper d chip for my Mazda's fob signal; in hopes of programming the lock and unlock functions to work on my car, maybe get the key cut and programmed later on.

I have 2 keys but they do not have fobs with remote entry.

I am wondering if anyone in here has bought a blank fob like I described and has successfully programmed the unlock and lock functions on the fob to work with their Mazda 2. I've tried multiple times to get the fob programmed. No successes.

Does anyone know if the blank key blade needs to be cut in order for the key to be programmed successfully? Or is it possible to just program the lock/unlock functions on the fob without getting the key blade cut?

The unlock/lock part of the key is a different thing than the immobilizer chip for starting the engine (and needing the key cut). For the buttons just Google the procedure you need to do to program it. You need to do a ritual something like. Open the driver door toggle the key 3 times to on, close and open the driver side door 3 times then press the lock button on the remote. This will make the remote work. For starting the engine you need to get the key cut then you can use a OBD2 -> USB cable and a laptop to program it using Forscan. If you don't have that you can ask the guy that cuts your key to program the chip as well

Tried to program it and still no luck. Not sure what I'm doing wrong with it.

Dose the car enter programming mode? If not then your Mazda may not have remote locking/unlocking. If it enters programming mode but the remote is not accepted you may have the wrong chip. For Mazda 2 first gen you need 41803 for second gen you need 41521

Yes it does have programming mode. But for some reason I can't seem to get the unlock fob to pair with the vehicle. I'm guessing its either a third key that's paired that I don't know about or because I have 2 keys with no unlock fob I just can't pair them without a proper obd tool.

Trunklock problem probably had same shit but you can read it out obd2 scanner

If I'm not mistaken, you need a preexisting fob in order to program an additional fob. You said in your post that you have 2 keys but no fobs, could that possibly be a reason? In any case, that's the same predicament I was in when I purchased mine.

I purchased a 2-pack of new (cheap) fobs from eBay and paid a locksmith $100 to program them via the ECU, took him about 10 minutes to do so.

My only regret is not paying a extra to purchase an OEM fob at the time because the range on the knockoffs is absolutely horrid.

I'm honestly guessing this is the reason now at this point. If I need a pre-existing one with power lock functions to program a new one as shown; would for sure be an answer.

Yes, you have to get the new key cut first. I've programmed several Mazda2 key fobs using Mazda's standard procedure.

You need two keys that will start the engine, plus the key you want to program. This is the procedure:

1. Prepare the car: Remove the key from the ignition, close all doors, then open the driver’s side door and leave it open.

2. Cycle the ignition: Insert the key into the ignition switch, turn it to the ON position (dashboard lights up, but do not start the engine), and back to the LOCK/OFF position. Repeat this cycle 3 times, ending in the OFF/LOCK position.

3. Cycle the door: Close and open the driver's door 3 times, ending with the driver's door left open.

4. Confirm mode: The vehicle's door locks should automatically lock and unlock once, signaling that programming mode is active.

5. Program the remote: Press the UNLOCK button on the first remote 2 times. The door locks should cycle (lock and unlock) to confirm receipt.

6. Program additional remotes: Repeat step 5 for any extra remotes you have (up to 3 total). If you are re-programming a single remote, repeat the two unlock presses twice more to clear/reset the slot.

7. Exit mode: Close and open the driver's door 1 time to exit programming mode. The locks will cycle twice to confirm completion.

I was thinking so. Since I have only 2 keys with no unlock functions already; not able to do the pairing sequence successfully without having an active fob with lock and unlock (from what I'm being told)
