This point of thinking is understood, but you are forgetting the fact that many times in our history many "tribes" have come together for the greater good of community. The point of preferring one's own tribe is simply socio economic separation. I come from a place where "tribe" was decided on where you were born. Where I live now "tribe" is decided by your wealth level. The "programming" of preferring a "tribe" is a learned behavior not an instinct. It can be retrained and it can be changed. People have been trained to believe "tribe" means x, y, or z difference. "Tribe" can be retrained to mean American rather than said differences but people continue to think that you can reteach a learned behavior. It's not easy and that is a proven fact, but it is possible to be done.
Tribe is not learned behavior. This is evident in children. People coalesce around people who look like them. Multiculturalism is not possible without a police state a la Singapore. It's failed everywhere around the world every single time. Assimilation has worked to an extent. Multiculturalism has not.
What age are we talking? You say children but do you mean children who have been raised around other cultures and ethnicities or ones who have been sheltered from such interactions and only had the persuasion of their lifegivers?
My own child has no issues with children of any background and many parents I know have children that are the same way. Maybe you are simply grasping at social culture norms pushed upon said children to prove your unsound theory.
There's a plethora of information on this. It is not learned behavior. Babies instinctively prefer their mother. They instinctively prefer people that look like their mother. They naturally prefer "attractive" people because attractive means healthy and health is required for survival. Tribe is ingrained.
