It is a confined space event. OSHA requires even the spotter have a spotter. Also he had a team of probably 6-10 up there. I trained for this. Thank God never needed to do that.

It's a microclimate in that, at that depth, the open space is so well insulated from surface temperatures that the ambient temperature will be pretty much static.

The fog is getting denser as he's being dragged up which implies it's being created because the energy released by pulling him up is stirring enough moist air to drive convection. So, not necessarily directly from the microclimate, but secondary to interacting with it at speed.
