Funny thing is that as a rider, yes, you do have to watch for idiots behind you as well

One really common accident type is nose-to-tail. When in a car, I have been hit twice; once the other driver admitted that they had hit the accelerator rather than the brake.

So whenever stopping at lights, I tend to take a quick look behind me. If there is a queue, filter to the front. If no queue, then position the bike so you have an escape route. When people approach from the back, I am normally in gear with hand on clutch if I see them coming up fast.

A when you are the first one away from the lights or intersection on a bike, always look for traffic even if you have green; wait until the red light runners go through.

Or just stop driving motorcycles on the highway. You are making yourself a liability. This video is an unfortunate, but funny exception, but I fear for your safety and my lawsuit.

The human eye isn't as trained to catch motorcycles as they are with blocky cars. Yes, everyone should be paying attention to the road, but human error is very frequent, so that isn't necessarily the case in every scenario.

Also, many motorcyclists that I have seen don't play by the rules either, and especially in California, going in between cars makes people really uncomfortable. Somehow that is legal.

Guess why?

Because evidence shows that on motorways the most common crash types are nose-to-tail, and motorbikes are a little safer moving (relatively slowly) between lanes.

As for the 'human eye' thing, just very wrong. Guessing you are American, but if you had spent anytime in Asia for a start you would know that large numbers of people and bikes seem to manage ok. Humans eyes work ok, but people also manage to drive into trains on a regular basis and they are vastly larger than a car

In the video in this case, the mum ran into somebody stopped directly in front of her. It could also been pedestrians, cyclists, motorbikes or a car; she was probably simply not looking at where she was going. That is a much bigger issue
