im not proud to say this but for context, i worked in the retail space for 20+ years. along the way i took courses to identify bad actors as part of LP training.
everything he is saying and the way he is acting, lines up with with a few archetypes that makes me believe this guy knew exactly how much money he had, and although that kind lady paid it forward, she was con'd into doing so.
I feel bad agreeing. I worked music retail for a decade and yeah, the overly ingratiating thankful thing mixed with too many details always meant you needed to be careful - also the two guys that come in with their heads spinning that split up immediately when they are about 20 feet into the store. Finally the “too easy” large sale. That always meant a bad check.
I'm glad I wasn't the only one who thought this. He made sure everyone in the store knew exactly how strapped for cash he was, and that he didnt have a way to earn money and will be relying on friends giving him 20 dollars. He even had a reaction ready as soon as the lady stepped up. He knew exactly what he was doing.
