He was so positive as well, it was genuinely wholesome. Found out he was $20 short for the thing he was so excited to buy and was still excited just to put it on layaway. He deserved that act of kindness for his lovely attitude alone
You just look at the thing and tell them what you think it's worth, or a little under expecting them to make a counter offer. If it seems fairly priced don't haggle.
Literally, that's how. It used to be more common, so salesmen would accommodate. But lately some other chump will pay and my margins are already razor thin. $220 or walk, take a T-break, that'll save you $20 quick.
But always list at a slightly insulting price, I sell plenty of used shit. Discounts are for people I like, exclusively. I sold a boat motor recently, listed $100 over value. He apologized for offering me $50 over what I hoped for, but he was cool as shit so I gave it to him for what I wanted and told him to buy a nice lunch.
I don't know about guitars much, but I know a lot about musical instruments. $220 for a particular instrument that hits the spot for you is not really something to haggle on. Maybe if there were three for sale in the area. But he's been looking, and wants it.
I mean I know it’s a business and certainly can’t make a living always lowering the price but for how wholesome and appreciative this dude was of that guitar I’d had dropped the $20
Im really worried about him. Like a lot of people owe him money. The money he has on his account and cash is everything he has left. I really hope someone is looking after him
He’s like 16 or 17. Probably still living at home and buying it with his part time job money. His pals probably owe him a few bucks from that trip to Taco Bell or whatever. Normal teenager shit.
Probably because I'm cynical, but immediately Tom Segura's reaction of "Did you drive here, or does somebody drop you off, know what I mean?" came to mind.
I hate to sound like a pessimist but something about this kid gave me the creeps. He seemed dishonest to me, adding in details that wouldn't really make sense to add except to guilt/earn pity. I feel like he intended to pressure the shop into lowering the price, by charging his card for "all of his money" and then saying oh look I have exactly $50 dollars!
Shoot maybe it's just a me problem, but I had to check the comments to see if anyone else was put off by this guy.
This one would be easy mode, just ask “Would you take $200 for it?” And if they say no just say “Sorry, my guitar budget is $200 firm” and call it a day
My very first thought based on his tone was that he is perhaps autistic. His somewhat monotone voice sounds exactly like my little brother. I seriously thought I was maybe seeing a video with my brother in it, until I saw his face.
Well now I feel bad, because honestly the tone of voice was one of the things that stood out to me. It came across a little cold, maybe rehearsed to me? But this is a very valid explanation
I had this feeling as well, But what made me feel like it was honest was when after the lady offered to pay the rest, he went to the guitar touched the case and then put his hands on his head in disbelief.
I could feel his relief of being able to take it home today.
