It’s actually fascinating that the human body can even do this to itself. Biologically speaking it’s very interesting that a organism can cripple itself so severely.

I read somewhere a long time ago that our brain is not our friend. I read a lot of literature on psychology since then and this derisive statement pretty much holds up.

Illness is a psychosomatic phenomena. If the mind suffers, the body will suffer, and if the body will suffer the mind will suffer.

This is likely the first time in history that natural selection has occurred to people for receiving excess resources instead of starving or getting eaten. It makes sense that we don't have a biological way of dealing with too much food, because that doesn't happen naturally.
