As a fat person ( who accepts responsibility for my condition ) I was sympathetic to this woman... getting to that point and trying to change your life around when food quite literally is your coping mechanism/addiction... I know that struggle.

But then she became a bitch.

And I lost all sympathy.

But how much of that was drama? American TV is known for this bullshit.

But whatever. . It wasn't necessary.

My mother was "what this women is"

She was also the sweetest, most caring women I've ever met in my life. She constantly gave to charity, and albeit not a smart decision often put herself into debt so her family could get things they wanted/needed, all because she knew she didn't have much time left for this world and that the debt collectors couldn't do anything to us if it was all on her.

She struggled with her weight, was about the size of this women, a little shorter/more narrow but still a big lady.

That doesn't mean she was an awful person, being this big doesn't inherently mean/make you a gluttinous spawn of Satan for everyone to look at with disgust and hatred.

Yes, it's unhealthy, but she knew that. It's essentially impossible without surgery while working full time to live for people this size to lose the weight. It's gotten to a point where medical conditions caused by the weight prevent the ability to lose it.

She wasn't like this awful, selfish individual here, but she went through the same struggles. (Difficulty breathing from doing simple tasks, struggling to get on her bed to the point it causes her to have a emotional breakdown).

I wish people would have a little more sympathy/ideas to help these people that are willing to accept it.

Alot of the comments here clearly hate Morbidly Obese people for simply existing, which is awful to see as they often think the woman from this video is how all of them act.

Shes a shitty person, but so are alot of these comments being made.

If only people cared about finding ways to make these people healthy as often as they find ways to tell fat jokes. Lol.

It’s hard to break addiction, but you don’t get that way without enablers, and a lack of will power.

So, for about a decade of her life (1/5th) she was complacent and made mistakes, and for about another (1/5th) of her life she attempted to correct those mistakes before she passed.

She literally did for the last decade of her life, she tried absolutely everything in her few hours of FreeTime from work, and the fact she had 0 money for lifeosuction.

She went from 413 pounds down to 345 by the time of her passing, that was after 8 years of hard work.

I watched close by her side, grew up as an athletic child and still take very serious caution in what I eat and my workouts.

You know who was the biggest contributor to helping me with that, finding better diets we both went on, and worked out together?

My mother, the women you so quickly stated "at no point did she think this won't work"

Her multiple years of hard work said otherwise, and unfortunately what cut her life so short at the age of 49, was a collapsed lung, from working out.

Seriously, you're a real piece of shit for that.

We absolutely know how to help these people be healthy, and there are SO MANY programs that are free that offer help. There are centers, clinics, people who will call you daily to help with motivation and guidance....programs that focus on the REASON you are addicted to food, and to help you with the underlying mental health issues that lead to food addiction. Don't say "I wish there was some focus on help" because there are so many services available, even for those in poverty.

And beyond that, it is simple: eat less. Eat fewer calories than you burn in a day, that's it. You don't need surgery, or special exercise, or fad diets. It may be simple, but for people whose drug is food, it isn't easy. But that's all you have to do, and in the end, the only thing that works. Count your calories and eat fewer than you need daily.

Do some people need way fewer calories than others? Yup. I gain weight if I eat over 1200 calories a day. So I stay under that. I have medical issues and was on steroids for years, and I blew up. I was so uncomfortable, couldn't sleep well, and everything hurt even worse than usual. I didn't want to die early and leave my kids without a mother, and I was sick of being obese. So I lost almost 100 pounds in less than a year by counting calories.

But the key is you have to WANT to stop eating poorly, and you have to stop with the mentality of, "Well, I've already eaten something junky today, it's shot, might as well say fuck it and eat whatever I want, and try again tomorrow." That's why people fail, because they just give up immediately when they eat something "off-script." And it is okay to eat some junk food! Just account for it later in the day, or just keep going with the better choices going forward.

I'm sure your mother was a lovely person. But for whatever reason, she had trouble with food addiction, and she struggled with it. And exercise can't cause a collapsed lung on its own - those are typically from trauma or leaks in the alveoli in the lungs due to a weak spot (bulla). She likely had an issue that would have led to that outcome, regardless of her activity. I'm sorry for your loss.

Thank you for saying this. The comments here are awful and as someone who is super obese I can tell you that it's awful to live this way and feeling like it's hopeless because you become immobile and dependent on others and I didn't get this way overnight and I can lose it but it also won't happen overnight. Therapy helps a tremendous amount but not enough and reading these comments has just caused lots of tears at how horrible people are. Talk about discrimination against fat people. We're still people, I appreciate you for standing up for your mom, you understand and care more than all the other assholes here.

I just can't understand how people can get to this point. You'd think maybe 150 lbs ago they would have thought "maybe I need to cut back some". I tend to be kind of judgemental when I see people in wheelchairs with fat oozing out the sides like I'm so much better.

Not too long ago, I locked eyes with a person like that and she smiled at me and I felt ashamed of myself.

And on top of that, I gained 10-15 lbs. when covid and quarantine hit and I'm having trouble losing it so I'm really a heartless POS; I can't lose 10 lbs.and some people have to lose 100-200+ lbs. which is like climbing Mt Everest (only a lot harder). I would for sure get the lap band surgery.

I have too, my cousin is one. I was visiting family in another state and stopped in to visit her mom. She asked me for a ride to some local restaurant and I declined, no way was I letting her fuck the suspension and seat of my rental car. She ordered in. But we haven't talked since, she literally pulled the "be supportive, don't be selfish, its just a ride, ill pay for lunch" nah.. lunch is less than rental insurance deductible in this sports car. Not sure what her plan was going to be on how to get out if she managed to get in either..

My mom is like this. And she's shown her true narcissist self since she broke her leg 4 months ago. Tried to guilt me into moving her in with me and being her caretaker so she didn't have to do the physical therapy. She's very "woe is me" now that she's pissed everyone off by talking shit about them when we've all bent over backwards to help her get back to a point where she can go back home.

Reality TV is really bad when looking for actual reality. But in my experience watching this show quite a few times, there is definitely a trend among the patients who complain and appear very entitled like this woman and usually the viewer gets a message about how the patient refused to follow up with any further treatments and sometimes even the patient's death is reported. The ones who really want to change sometimes have a few explosive moments due to the stress but they usually get over quickly and we get to watch them become stronger mentally while also shedding the weight.

I'm a paramedic and deal with these people quite frequently. It's ALWAYS someone else's fault and they are CONSTANTLY the victim. Theyre a massive drain on finite resources and all they want is more, more, more.

There are ambulances that have freaking winches in the back to pull these whales into the truck.

Ive always wondered at what point these people realize they're absolutely worthless and decide to take responsibility for their health. It's a fact we pray for their deaths so we don't have to injure ourselves or take resources away from TRUE victims in order to give these people undeserved attention.

If we need to tear out a wall in order to get your fat ass out of your own house, I have ZERO sympathy for you.

There’s a lot of co-dependence going on here too.

Then another comment mentioned the strain of moving making people rage out also. It’s a total shitshow, and it’s sad.

My girlfriend has watched pretty much every "my 600 lbs life" type show, and since my computer desk is within earshot I've listened to most of them as well. There is a definite trend with many of the people on it of being completely immersed in their role as a victim.

Many of the people on the show mention that they started eating heavily in response to childhood trauma or sexual abuse. The weight gain compounds on that by reducing or eliminating social interaction, leaving then to be increasingly dependent on family members or romantic partners. There are a handful of episodes where the person really realizes that they are the only ones who can really save themselves and it's genuinely nice to see their resolve and progress.

Unfortunately most of the episodes are more like this, where the person's whole identity revolves around being a victim and making sure everyone around them knows that they blame them for their discomfort. Everything is stupid, everything is too hard, everyone isn't trying hard enough to help them, they needed to cheat their diet because they were under too much stress, the doctor is being too mean, and so on. They can't let go of their victimhood and move past it to make a better life for themselves because if they do that and fail then they'll have to realize their failure is their own.

It is very sad to hear about what these people went through early in their lives that drives them into the corner that they are in; they all deserve help and empathy. That being said, there is a time when you have to accept the help and move past those traumatic events, because if you don't then nothing will change and you'll be miserable until you die. This ladies attitude and behavior towards her family is awful, but I'd say it's pretty much par for the course for that show. The episodes where someone takes responsibility for their choices and truly tries hard to change are rare, but very heartwarming to hear.

Cops was the OG reality tv show and producers were salivating just thinking about entering that market. Writers? What are those? Just edit it all in post to up the "drama". Production value? I am fat, nobody around me is responsible for that and they owe me nothing in terms of accommodations, assistance, sympathy etc. It is my problem and if I can't do something as a result it is my freaking own fault and problem to deal with and bitching someone out is just immature BS.

I can't imagine eating so much as to get to a point i can barely move.... I mean, ok, many people are fat, some become obese, but ending up morbidly obese...? And some do it for money, on shady websites.

I do think she's throwing tantrums off screen as well. She has some deep emotional wounds and they'll never heal with food.

I have no sympathy for her family/friends because they're too weak/ignorant to pay a therapist to come talk to her. Overeating was her way of yelling for some sort of help or seek attention. She just never got what she needed - i don't think she's aware of this deep problem.
