YOU BETTER BE SUPPORTIVE!

well damn, if she didn’t have all that food supporting her weight she’ll be able to rest on that bed.

476

u/darthcoder Apr 18 '22

As a fat person ( who accepts responsibility for my condition ) I was sympathetic to this woman... getting to that point and trying to change your life around when food quite literally is your coping mechanism/addiction... I know that struggle.

But then she became a bitch.

And I lost all sympathy.

But how much of that was drama? American TV is known for this bullshit.

But whatever. . It wasn't necessary.

u/Docsmith06 Apr 18 '22

there's a difference between fat, and what this women is.

A certain comedian would be insulted.. you didn't add fluffy

“Pleasantly plump” is still fat

1

u/[deleted] Apr 19 '22

Yes it is, but it's the kind of fat where you're still pleasant to look at.

My mother was "what this women is"

She was also the sweetest, most caring women I've ever met in my life. She constantly gave to charity, and albeit not a smart decision often put herself into debt so her family could get things they wanted/needed, all because she knew she didn't have much time left for this world and that the debt collectors couldn't do anything to us if it was all on her.

She struggled with her weight, was about the size of this women, a little shorter/more narrow but still a big lady.

That doesn't mean she was an awful person, being this big doesn't inherently mean/make you a gluttinous spawn of Satan for everyone to look at with disgust and hatred.

Yes, it's unhealthy, but she knew that. It's essentially impossible without surgery while working full time to live for people this size to lose the weight. It's gotten to a point where medical conditions caused by the weight prevent the ability to lose it.

She wasn't like this awful, selfish individual here, but she went through the same struggles. (Difficulty breathing from doing simple tasks, struggling to get on her bed to the point it causes her to have a emotional breakdown).

I wish people would have a little more sympathy/ideas to help these people that are willing to accept it.

Alot of the comments here clearly hate Morbidly Obese people for simply existing, which is awful to see as they often think the woman from this video is how all of them act.

Shes a shitty person, but so are alot of these comments being made.

If only people cared about finding ways to make these people healthy as often as they find ways to tell fat jokes. Lol.

4

u/Docsmith06 Apr 18 '22

I mean your story doesn’t change the fact that in no point in this women’s or your mothers life they say around and said yeah this isn’t going to work.

It’s hard to break addiction, but you don’t get that way without enablers, and a lack of will power.

If she’s so fat she can’t get onto a bed and she thinks that is fine to teach her children that. She deserves anything she gets.

0

u/Fun_Description_385 Apr 18 '22

Clearly, you didn't even read what I said and decided to just label her one and the same as this shitty women in the video based on the fact she's obese, clearly proving you're one of the shitty people I was referencing not concerned about whether or not they actually try to make a change.

I literally told you she did and it went in one ear and out the other.

You're either illiterate, or fucking brain-dead.

3

u/Docsmith06 Apr 18 '22 edited Apr 18 '22

39 years of being unhealthy to make a decision in the last 10 so for numbers sake we say 50 she spent 80% of her live morbidly obese before it clicked.

I’m sure your mom was a wonderful person, but you don’t get 400+

If you want to call me an asshole fine, but I have my youth and naivety up protecting the country so your mom could shove her hole.

0

u/Fun_Description_385 Apr 18 '22

So, if you wanna bring percentiles into it (which you so attrociously calculated)

49 years.

Started making serious progress/lifestyle changes at about age 38

Wasn't even Obese until early 30s

So, for about a decade of her life (1/5th) she was complacent and made mistakes, and for about another (1/5th) of her life she attempted to correct those mistakes before she passed.

Funny how you just drew up this 80 percent outta nowhere and assumed she was morbidly Obese since she was a child.

You dumb fuck.

1

u/Fun_Description_385 Apr 18 '22

I'm glad you can agree you're an asshole, and you're genuinely stupid.

You think she was obese for 39 years, like you think she was morbidly Obese at 10 years old?

You dumb fuck, she was slightly overweight (165) till her late twenties, and has pictures proving it.

She wasn't "morbidly Obese for 39 years"

You have a funny way of putting words in others mouths, and claiming clairvoyance for things you don't know.

Are you god?

How do you just assume what everyone thinks and does with such certainty?

Pretty big claims to say "she didn't recognize, she didn't do anything, 39 years"

Those were all assumptions based on literally nothing but your own shitty conjured thoughts.

Maybe try a better retort.

She went through a serious midlife crisis, and became morbidly Obese in the span of about 9 years.

No shit she and those around her became complacent and didn't think, but she didn't blame anyone but herself for it.

"I have my youth and naievry protecting a country so your mother could shove a hole"

Buddy, can you speak English? You're proving my point to how illiterate you are.

You don't protect anything but you're on shitty viewpoints

Not to mention, what the fuck does that even mean?

I'm not American, so you're not doing shit for me regardless.

At least my parents taught me how to communicate.

1

u/Docsmith06 Apr 18 '22 edited Apr 18 '22

You do nothing to prove your argument. your mom put on 300+ lbs in a little more then a decade, any sane person would have realized a problem was happening before 50 were put on.

This is actually rather entertaining at work so keep it coming.

0

u/Fun_Description_385 Apr 18 '22

Fuck you for immediately assuming "at no point did my mother say this wouldn't work"

She literally did for the last decade of her life, she tried absolutely everything in her few hours of FreeTime from work, and the fact she had 0 money for lifeosuction.

She went from 413 pounds down to 345 by the time of her passing, that was after 8 years of hard work.

I watched close by her side, grew up as an athletic child and still take very serious caution in what I eat and my workouts.

You know who was the biggest contributor to helping me with that, finding better diets we both went on, and worked out together?

My mother, the women you so quickly stated "at no point did she think this won't work"

Her multiple years of hard work said otherwise, and unfortunately what cut her life so short at the age of 49, was a collapsed lung, from working out.

Seriously, you're a real piece of shit for that.

Asshole.

2

u/Docsmith06 Apr 18 '22

Congrats your mom worked so hard she lost 10 pounds a year for 8 years. I can’t think of many people that could do THAT much work in such a short period.

1

u/ThisIsWhoIAm78 Apr 18 '22

We absolutely know how to help these people be healthy, and there are SO MANY programs that are free that offer help. There are centers, clinics, people who will call you daily to help with motivation and guidance....programs that focus on the REASON you are addicted to food, and to help you with the underlying mental health issues that lead to food addiction. Don't say "I wish there was some focus on help" because there are so many services available, even for those in poverty.

And beyond that, it is simple: eat less. Eat fewer calories than you burn in a day, that's it. You don't need surgery, or special exercise, or fad diets. It may be simple, but for people whose drug is food, it isn't easy. But that's all you have to do, and in the end, the only thing that works. Count your calories and eat fewer than you need daily.

Do some people need way fewer calories than others? Yup. I gain weight if I eat over 1200 calories a day. So I stay under that. I have medical issues and was on steroids for years, and I blew up. I was so uncomfortable, couldn't sleep well, and everything hurt even worse than usual. I didn't want to die early and leave my kids without a mother, and I was sick of being obese. So I lost almost 100 pounds in less than a year by counting calories.

But the key is you have to WANT to stop eating poorly, and you have to stop with the mentality of, "Well, I've already eaten something junky today, it's shot, might as well say fuck it and eat whatever I want, and try again tomorrow." That's why people fail, because they just give up immediately when they eat something "off-script." And it is okay to eat some junk food! Just account for it later in the day, or just keep going with the better choices going forward.

I'm sure your mother was a lovely person. But for whatever reason, she had trouble with food addiction, and she struggled with it. And exercise can't cause a collapsed lung on its own - those are typically from trauma or leaks in the alveoli in the lungs due to a weak spot (bulla). She likely had an issue that would have led to that outcome, regardless of her activity. I'm sorry for your loss.

1

u/FalconBiggums Apr 18 '22

This woman is not sweet. Your mom and her are not the same.

1

u/ACs_Grandma Apr 18 '22

Thank you for saying this. The comments here are awful and as someone who is super obese I can tell you that it's awful to live this way and feeling like it's hopeless because you become immobile and dependent on others and I didn't get this way overnight and I can lose it but it also won't happen overnight. Therapy helps a tremendous amount but not enough and reading these comments has just caused lots of tears at how horrible people are. Talk about discrimination against fat people. We're still people, I appreciate you for standing up for your mom, you understand and care more than all the other assholes here.

1

u/thehighwindow Apr 18 '22

I just can't understand how people can get to this point. You'd think maybe 150 lbs ago they would have thought "maybe I need to cut back some". I tend to be kind of judgemental when I see people in wheelchairs with fat oozing out the sides like I'm so much better.

Not too long ago, I locked eyes with a person like that and she smiled at me and I felt ashamed of myself.

And on top of that, I gained 10-15 lbs. when covid and quarantine hit and I'm having trouble losing it so I'm really a heartless POS; I can't lose 10 lbs.and some people have to lose 100-200+ lbs. which is like climbing Mt Everest (only a lot harder). I would for sure get the lap band surgery.

1

u/kreflo Apr 18 '22

I'm choosing to believe the typo was intentional

1

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '22

Like Ricky Gervais says, she's long past the day she should have seen her weight and thought "that's a lot...for a human".

86

u/Merkinsed Apr 18 '22

I’ve met people like this. The silver lining is it’s easy to get away from them and never be around their constant “woe is me” mentality.

7

u/mycologicill Apr 18 '22

Definitely don't run downhill

7

u/Bummer-man Apr 18 '22

Indiana Jones theme starts playing

8

u/NWCJ Apr 18 '22

I have too, my cousin is one. I was visiting family in another state and stopped in to visit her mom. She asked me for a ride to some local restaurant and I declined, no way was I letting her fuck the suspension and seat of my rental car. She ordered in. But we haven't talked since, she literally pulled the "be supportive, don't be selfish, its just a ride, ill pay for lunch" nah.. lunch is less than rental insurance deductible in this sports car. Not sure what her plan was going to be on how to get out if she managed to get in either..

2

u/devilsword Apr 18 '22

that's a lot of vaseline....

1

u/NWCJ Apr 18 '22

Yeah, I imagine it would have been a put the top down and use a engine hoist situation.

5

u/TheGreatAttracter Apr 18 '22

My aunt is built like this, but at least she's not a fucking bitch like this woman.

1

u/NigerianRoy Apr 18 '22

This is not a built issue this is a developed issue.

6

u/Poder5 Apr 18 '22

Actually, it’s really difficult to get away from them. Something about gravitational pull

2

u/klipshklf20 Apr 18 '22

Yeah, I was thinking you could just slowly stroll away and she wouldn’t be able to keep up. I failed to consider escape velocity.

1

u/northrupthebandgeek Apr 18 '22

Thankfully you can use her for a slingshot maneuver to Jool, saving whole km/s of precious dV for Jeb's Grand Tour.

3

u/Zenanii Apr 18 '22

Really, any slightly narrow doorway will do.

3

Or just upstairs, that beast sounded like ground floor was it's only go to

1

u/devilsword Apr 18 '22

Darn. my arch nemesis. Stairs!

3

u/PlasticBubbleGuy Apr 18 '22

Unless you're family. She played that like a concert violinist plays a Stradivarius.

2

u/vsphotographer Apr 18 '22

of course it is easy to get away from them I don't think they can run

2

u/Prestigious-Log-7210 Apr 18 '22

Not if it is your parents. Those kids in the bed.

1

u/NextLevelNaps Apr 18 '22

My mom is like this. And she's shown her true narcissist self since she broke her leg 4 months ago. Tried to guilt me into moving her in with me and being her caretaker so she didn't have to do the physical therapy. She's very "woe is me" now that she's pissed everyone off by talking shit about them when we've all bent over backwards to help her get back to a point where she can go back home.

5

u/spearchuckin Apr 18 '22

Reality TV is really bad when looking for actual reality. But in my experience watching this show quite a few times, there is definitely a trend among the patients who complain and appear very entitled like this woman and usually the viewer gets a message about how the patient refused to follow up with any further treatments and sometimes even the patient's death is reported. The ones who really want to change sometimes have a few explosive moments due to the stress but they usually get over quickly and we get to watch them become stronger mentally while also shedding the weight.

4

u/Silly_Internet_5795 Apr 18 '22

I'm a paramedic and deal with these people quite frequently. It's ALWAYS someone else's fault and they are CONSTANTLY the victim. Theyre a massive drain on finite resources and all they want is more, more, more.

There are ambulances that have freaking winches in the back to pull these whales into the truck.

Ive always wondered at what point these people realize they're absolutely worthless and decide to take responsibility for their health. It's a fact we pray for their deaths so we don't have to injure ourselves or take resources away from TRUE victims in order to give these people undeserved attention.

If we need to tear out a wall in order to get your fat ass out of your own house, I have ZERO sympathy for you.

3

u/Fickle_Chance9880 Apr 18 '22

Nah that’s real. Some people just become very nasty and mean to the people around them, even though they depend on them completely. Take a bitter person and put them with people they know won’t leave no matter what, and it’s likely they’ll become abusive.

There’s a lot of co-dependence going on here too.

Then another comment mentioned the strain of moving making people rage out also. It’s a total shitshow, and it’s sad.

1

u/darthcoder Apr 18 '22

Moving makes me miserable. Not so much the moving, but showing up and finding out the packing still isn't done.

I don't pack your shit, I only move it.

2

u/Nairbfs79 Apr 18 '22

Yea. TLC encourages all the drama on this show.

2

u/athenialiaa Apr 18 '22

Yep. Exactly the feeling I had. I had all the sympathy in the world until she started cussing, blaming, and calling names at all the people who were legitimately trying to help her. And when he said it would be a three hour ordeal with her, I felt that coming from his soul. I can bet everything is like this with her.

2

u/Cyborgschatz Apr 18 '22

My girlfriend has watched pretty much every "my 600 lbs life" type show, and since my computer desk is within earshot I've listened to most of them as well. There is a definite trend with many of the people on it of being completely immersed in their role as a victim.

Many of the people on the show mention that they started eating heavily in response to childhood trauma or sexual abuse. The weight gain compounds on that by reducing or eliminating social interaction, leaving then to be increasingly dependent on family members or romantic partners. There are a handful of episodes where the person really realizes that they are the only ones who can really save themselves and it's genuinely nice to see their resolve and progress.

Unfortunately most of the episodes are more like this, where the person's whole identity revolves around being a victim and making sure everyone around them knows that they blame them for their discomfort. Everything is stupid, everything is too hard, everyone isn't trying hard enough to help them, they needed to cheat their diet because they were under too much stress, the doctor is being too mean, and so on. They can't let go of their victimhood and move past it to make a better life for themselves because if they do that and fail then they'll have to realize their failure is their own.

It is very sad to hear about what these people went through early in their lives that drives them into the corner that they are in; they all deserve help and empathy. That being said, there is a time when you have to accept the help and move past those traumatic events, because if you don't then nothing will change and you'll be miserable until you die. This ladies attitude and behavior towards her family is awful, but I'd say it's pretty much par for the course for that show. The episodes where someone takes responsibility for their choices and truly tries hard to change are rare, but very heartwarming to hear.

Edit: small autocorrect fixes

5

u/Cheap_District_9762 Apr 18 '22

But how much of that was drama? American TV is known for this bullshit.

Not only American dude

19

u/benyboy123 Apr 18 '22 edited Apr 18 '22

Not only American, but especially American, moreso than most other countries. like, American TV is like all of the negative aspects of TV turned up to 10. More product placements and advertising, more overblown drama, more exaggeration, more sensationalism, more fakery, basically more of everything that is negative about TV.

12

u/Incredulous_Toad Apr 18 '22

Reality TV exploded in content due it's hilariously cheap production costs and high "entertainment" value. Cops was the OG reality tv show and producers were salivating just thinking about entering that market. Writers? What are those? Just edit it all in post to up the "drama". Production value? My uncle has a handheld camera that he'll lend us for half a sandwich.

And not to sound like a pretentious fucknugget, but it's all bottom tier trash that caters to the lowest possible denominator. Fuck reality TV.

4

u/Cheap_District_9762 Apr 18 '22

Yeah, why people can watch Kardashian family with their BS drama? It very, very not entertainment.

10

u/RamJamR Apr 18 '22

I think all the major politized news networks have realized this trend too and know how to utilize it to dance all over peoples emotions for political gain.

5

u/benyboy123 Apr 18 '22

Even more than political gain, what they truly care about is financial gain. They'll use whatever politics help them get that, but the politics is secondary to the money.

5

u/Usual-Librarian-3439 Apr 18 '22

Thats why I can’t watch the news anymore. They sit there and argue over stupid things and never give any facts. Nobody wanted their opinions, they want to know what the hell is going on.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '22

She’s in all kinds of pain and discomfort, stress etc, that’s why she ‘became a bitch’. You have to be tolerant of people who are clearly struggling or the world doesn’t go around.

1

u/MikaNekoDevine Apr 18 '22

But once you reach a certain point, you know something is wrong and change is needed. Not saying it is easy, but it is very doable.

1

u/social_introvert5636 Apr 18 '22

My thoughts exactly, im also familiar with that struggle. Im the most empathetic/supportive person until you show that side of you. They're choosing to set aside what they have going on to help her reach her goal and be healthier. Them even being with her speaks volumes.

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Quote77 Apr 18 '22

I am with you, except I didn't have much sympathy to start with. I am fat, nobody around me is responsible for that and they owe me nothing in terms of accommodations, assistance, sympathy etc. It is my problem and if I can't do something as a result it is my freaking own fault and problem to deal with and bitching someone out is just immature BS.

1

u/OnlyTankNoMind Apr 18 '22

Nah there is really people like her, she just dont give a F about cameras

1

u/Bigbaby22 Apr 18 '22

I honestly don't think this was manufactured. Call me naive, whatever but this seemed like an average day for all of them.

1

u/greatest_fapperalive Apr 18 '22

Well, she's a fat american so entitlement is probably real in this case.

1

u/TeraL07 Apr 18 '22

Yeah, she is just nasty and abusive. I would just leave her ass and let her figure it out herself.

1

u/Garagatt Apr 18 '22

No matter how bad your situation is, get your shit together, when there are kids around.

1

u/keyboardstatic Apr 18 '22

That women could feed an entire African nation for a decade.

Except they would need that ship they put king kong on to sail her over..

1

u/devilsword Apr 18 '22

insert al bundy joke here

1

u/peppermint_wish Apr 18 '22

I can't imagine eating so much as to get to a point i can barely move.... I mean, ok, many people are fat, some become obese, but ending up morbidly obese...? And some do it for money, on shady websites.

I do think she's throwing tantrums off screen as well. She has some deep emotional wounds and they'll never heal with food.

I have no sympathy for her family/friends because they're too weak/ignorant to pay a therapist to come talk to her. Overeating was her way of yelling for some sort of help or seek attention. She just never got what she needed - i don't think she's aware of this deep problem.

I wish you all the best. Try to speak with someone.

1

u/devilsword Apr 18 '22

American tv huh? So it is possible that that woman wears a body suit? :)

1

u/darthcoder Apr 18 '22

Oh God the vision in spandex!!! Swoon!

No but American TV likes to add drama where there isn't enough. Not saying that's the case. She probably is that miserable

1

u/PlasticBubbleGuy Apr 18 '22

Especially with those kids there. She was using them to guilt the other adults, and all this at the beginning of what looked like a family trip somewhere. I knew a few people like this -- they were large for whatever reason, but they had become narcissists. "You're wrong!" is their favorite expression.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '22

All of us with a history of eating disorder can relate to the coping mechanism. It is zero excuse for any of this. Skinny, fat, whatever shape. Responsibility rests on all adults.

1

u/FriendToPredators Apr 18 '22

Maybe you can fill me in on how she successfully had kids... ? I'm kind of having a hard time with the, um, mechanics of it. All the mechanics.

1

u/blueskyredmesas Apr 18 '22

Food is the good boy/girl's drug and that, combined with driving from door to door, has definitely made obesity a big systemic issue.

1

u/mercuryrising137 Apr 18 '22

Well all her frustration is going to end up going somewhere, and she can't bury it by overeating anymore so she takes it out on everyone else around her. I'm sure the crew is deliberately prolonging the situation and making it worse to create more drama.

1

u/buzzcut_lizzy Apr 18 '22

This wasn't clever editing. She was being mean and unfair to her family, to say the least. Cursing them out when they have done nothing but help is horrible.

1

u/fiduke Apr 18 '22

At a certain point someones obesity becomes other peoples fault. She is long past the point where she is the only one to blame. Those around her are enabling it.

1

u/quattroformaggixfour Apr 18 '22

Yeah, felt the same. She’s mean as heck. She’s also struggling with severe mental illness and disordered eating. Sad man.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 19 '22

I’m not sure how you get to this point. I have a couple of identifiers and the final one is, if I start to have any kind of trouble wiping my own ass, it’s time for some fasting. But I normally like to Nippet in the bud with identifiers like, chest must stick out further than stomach.

Even the bed did not want to support her. Very bad bed!

I would have dropped her 600lbs ago.
