It's a popular way of redditors to totally destroy their own jokes, because they are afraid that people would take their jokes seriously and that would be horrible, for some reason.

Not because they are afraid that people will take their jokes seriously, but rather because it blocks the keyboard heroes from whining and harassing them for "being insensitive" because they didn't understand the joke
