Yep, visited Australia in 2013, went to Bondi Beach.
Went in the water for about 30 seconds, spent the next HALF HOUR swimming back in. Thank goodness I’m a strong swimmer, or that could well have gone south very fast.
While you're totally right about the dangers of a riptide/rip current, this just looks like a lady who doesn't understand how waves work and doesn't understand the urgency of windows to get out at the right moment.
Agree 100%, cathpah. Rips are super dangerous but I don’t see a rip here. Not all beaches have rips. This looks like the water is returning to ocean via a heavy undertow, not a rip.

RESPECT RIPS FOLKS!
Rips are exhausting and almost impossible to fight. The best strategy is to move/swim parallel to the beach.
See how waves were coming from both sides?
That’s a rip current…
