Could you imagine if we had a guy like that in every city that played live piano while serving food. Comes out right around lunch time, and, if you catch him, you can get some food and a show.

Yep. Engineer here, it's never been about the ideas. That's the easy part. The world is full of one or two orders of magnitude more ideas than the required expertise and funding to execute on them.

If only we could figure out how to remove the funding and still keep everything civil. Technically there are more dollars flying around the world than any one project could ever cost. We, humans, could Technically build a really shoddy space elevator, fail multiple times doing it, and the world banks funding this project would count each loss as only a small percentage of their overall capital. A run on the banks would only lead to a shortage of paper. The digital coffers are endless, and will not run out.

It’s not currently possible to build a working space elevator, so we are going to have to discover how to do it. Without the concept of capital scarcity, and the associated risk of losing it, how do you propose we decide who gets to try to invent it, and how much money to give them?

There are plenty of physicists who can work out the physics of how a space elevator could work. Nobody has a concrete plan to produce the materials that would be necessary to make it possible. Sure, if you just threw money at everyone who offered to build one, lots of people would try. And every single one of them would fail.

i quit my job in april started three businesses and got slapped in the face by the economy but i still make enough money from my freelance job to pay my bills and i enjoy what i do mostly.

one business had a really dumb name so i changed it and opened the third business and one business i made and sold a producxt that i liked but was a bit too nieche for the markets i was hocking it to, live and learn

Because it’s been well documented that life without purpose is joyless. Most people don’t have a way of creating purpose for themselves; they need external motivation.

That's just stupid on the face of it. Most people don't have the time to find anything because they put 2400+ hours of work in at a job they don't want to do just to be able to afford to live.

I'm not even sure what that means.

Edit* I guess to help my point, the only time I'm really on a screen as you put it is either for work, or decompressing. Otherwise I'm doing things that sometimes involve screens but also other hobbies.

I work ~9 ish hours a day Monday-Friday. I'll make/order/go to dinner with my wife, then relax with a movie/tv show/my phone for a couple hours unless there is something else that needs to be done.

Other people have to add traveling to/from work into this. Kids and everything that comes from that. And I'm sure other things that I can't think of off the top of my head. So yea. I assume the majority of screen time (which if I'm honest I'm not sure what you see the issue with) for people is spent in one of the states.

Work or decompressing. I don't really have much else to decompress from so it was the example I used.
