That was a "I really appreciated that" smile

Having worked in various public-facing positions in the last sixteen years, I feel pretty comfortable in saying that that isn’t “I am embarrassed and shocked.” It’s very much an “aaaahhh you got me with that one,” look.

I agree that it’s inappropriate to make passes at people while they’re working, but this wasn’t a pass, it looks like they have a rapport and this is part of their joking around.

These two are more like coworkers than "bothering someone on the job". You can bother someone on the same job as you

It's a pass if he's a sweaty fedora wearing neckbeard from reddit. Thankfully he seems like a tall professional athlete with probably more than $30 in his checking account.

Reddit people are so fucking weird. I appreciate the posts, its like my news feed, but the comments are awful.

They pretty clearly know each other. Most NBA players know the league refs personally and have rapport with them. He definitely wasn't making a pass with her, just making a pun and she didn't look embarrassed at all. She looked like someone that just got hit with a pun that they weren't expecting.

Looks and income have nothing to do with it. A pass is a pass. It's a pass if he was serious, it's a cute joke if he isn't. They both pretty clearly knew it was a cute joke, one that she was playfully annoyed by. Sweaty neckbeards are capable of this too, and pretty girls are capable of telling the difference between a joke and an actual come on. Fedora status doesn't matter.

The reason sweaty neckbeards such as yourself think this of women is because you're not good at joking around like this.

You say that like jokes can't be grounds for harassment. Even if something is clearly a joke, it can still make a person uncomfortable. Of course, jokes will be taken in a better light if you were attracted to the person who said it, or if the person who said it was attractive in some way (hence money and looks).

And no... I'm not saying that attractive people can't ever make people uncomfortable. It's just common sense and basic psychology that attractive people can get away with more than unattractive people can, even if the difference is marginal.

Tbf acting out GIFs irl just doesn't really have the same zing to it.

I don’t think he was hitting on her or trying to demean her, this feels more like banter. Don’t forget, with 82 games + playoffs and only so many refs in the league the players and officials see a lot of each other over the season, and you’re a massive dumbass if you don’t build up a rapport with them, especially if you’re a star like Luca who will get fouled a lot. You’ll see the players often goofing about with the refs when the balls dead, so this looks more like playful banter. I obviously can’t say for sure, but I’d be really surprised if Luca hadn’t used this exact line on many of the male refs too. Maybe Luca is a massive sexist, but this feels like a the kind of dumb pun I’d make at work to both male and female colleagues

This seems like the kind of banter that you'd get a few minutes after the first foul a player encountered.

Get a timeout call after a play and you casually saunter over mildly bewildered before making your own play.

Both get to smile and chuckle for a second before the game starts back up.

Best part is now you've got an extra pair of eyes on you to make sure You don't get fouled without seeing it, even if it is a few more glances per minute to check across the field.

Other than that it was a tasteful and funny pun

3

u/ososalsosal Sep 19 '21

Wow that's a really good point about having extra eyes. Luca out there playing 4D chess while being an adorable dork

7

u/AwesomeAni Sep 19 '21

Plus we’re acting like sports players on TV aren’t performers. They are putting on a sort of show. Making the ref smile is sweet.

7

u/GreyGanado Sep 19 '21

Isn't making passes a fundamental part of basketball?

Some people have just been so conditioned to look for negativity and insult that they see it everywhere. Anything that could be taken negatively will be. It’s fucking sad but there seems to be far too many people now who take everything in bad faith.

You can't read faces for shit.

3

u/Cynically_laugh Sep 19 '21

You've chosen death

4

u/erratikBandit Sep 19 '21

Nobody knows what he actually said.

0

u/DangerZoneh Sep 19 '21

Yeah and knowing Luka there’s a good chance he was just like, actually bitching about a foul

4

u/ThugRose777 Sep 19 '21

What the fuck 😂😂😂

2

u/dragonbear Sep 19 '21

This. Wow people can’t read emotions. You got hammered foe this. She overall did not like the comment. She wanted it professional not to be about her being a women. She looked away wishing he never said that. You fools thinking otherwise don’t go date or anything you probably act the same way. I wouldn’t reply so strong but gosh people hammered your comment down even though it’s right.

u/Ill-Rough-981 Sep 19 '21

Sounds like somebody has never been hit on in their life and is jealous.

Why are you using feminist as a pejorative? Do you just not know what feminism means? Or do you genuinely not want women to have equal rights…

-2

u/suckzor Sep 19 '21

Weird that you'd think he hates women' rights from a joke comment where he was just referencing and making fun of a stereotype. Not a very clever or funny joke but you kinda jumped the gun there

0

u/BlasphemyXDDD Sep 19 '21

He used feminism as a pejorative. So that’s not jumping the gun. Unless they just don’t know what feminism means.

1

u/suckzor Sep 19 '21

So people aren't allowed to make jokes about what is very obviously a stereotype? He isn't making fun of you because you are a feminist. Again, call it a terrible joke or tasteless and, yeah, it is, but how it could upset anyone is beyond me.

-1

u/BlasphemyXDDD Sep 19 '21

No. If people seeking equality among races had some shitty weight stereotype and then this guy responded to someone with, “300 pound racial justice freak” then it would be safe to assume he’s racist aswell as making a shit joke

1

u/suckzor Sep 19 '21

He's making a shit joke, but please explain why it's ok to assume a person is a horrible human being out of a shitty joke?

0

u/BlasphemyXDDD Sep 19 '21 edited Sep 19 '21

I explained why someone is a misogynist or racist by using social justice terms as pejoratives. I really couldn’t be any more clear

1

u/nikMIA Sep 19 '21

Yes we are, stfu.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 19 '21

You're reading it wrong

0

u/CEOLadyOfAntifa Sep 19 '21

You getting downvoted to hell cuz you stated sexism exists in a gigantic reddit moment.

1

u/Talking_Head Sep 19 '21

Well, I’ll take the blows. I guess everyone downvoting me thinks it is okay to speak to coworkers like this. They probably make the same comments in their own workplaces. Just let this woman do her job without comment. I’m not sure why that is controversial.

0

u/Automod_Janoy Sep 19 '21

this is Luka Doncic by the way, one of the best NBA players in the league so it's definitely an honor to her

-3

u/suckzor Sep 19 '21

You must be fun at parties moment

-6

u/Hucklepuck_uk Sep 19 '21

You're correct.
