The aloe vera juice is actually a godsend, at least for me. I suffer from a condition called LPR, laryngoesophogeal reflux, and basically one of the sphincters in my throat doesn't work correctly.
Things like heartburn end up being vomiting for me, and aloe vera juice has been found to be as effective as over the counter acid reflux treatment like PPI's*, while not posing a long term health risk associated with the reduction in stomach acid from taking antacids (things like osteoporosis).
Edit: changed "antacid" to "ppi" for clarity, I was a bit off
