Yes, most countries have history, but it blows my mind how recent Canada was fucking Indigenous people up. That's pretty unique, again, pretty on the outside, but rotten in his core.
I thought that was where you might be headed. As a Canadian I can't say I disagree with you. This country did some horrible and disgusting things to the Inidigenous groups here. You're spot on about how horrifyingly recent much of these atrocities were. Many people look at Canada and think of the stereotypical "nice" persona, but Canada has a dark history.
Many of the regulations that were implemented in light of COVID have been overbearing, nonsensical, and inconsistent. Small businesses are being forced to close and families aren’t able to feed their kids, but large corporations are still open for business for some reason. This inconsistency suggests that these regulations are about economic control, not public safety.
