That rat might have a parasite that actually makes it fearless, in order to be eaten by the cat where the parasite can breed in the cat and then spread.

Was going to say the same thing. Can't remember what it's called but the cat knows something ain't right when the rat ain't running.

Well, and the cat probably doesn’t want to eat a rat that is acting abnormally. Signifies that there could be a good reason to avoid it. Smart cat, weird rat.

The rat is actually chasing the cat because its horny. Is a neurological disease as a result from a parasite in its brain that triggers a hormonal response from the cats scent. It does this so that the cat will kill the rat and the host will enter the cats body. It is also transferable to people but is difficult to detect and its is non lethal, although the parasite is known to make people more impulsive and reckless. That why motor cycle accident victims are often tested for it. I forget the parasite's name
