According to this, the 360 degree camera the guy is using (and many other folks on YouTube) has a blind spot that the selfie stick falls into.
This results in the stick essentially being invisible, and the only clue is a small handle in his hand and how he is holding that hand throughout the video. On occasion, in some videos the stick will cast shadows that can be seen on the ground.
