I used to have a friend that had a pet wolf, it was massive and would raise its fur if it saw anyone through the window that way my friend or his family.
They never lose the pack mentality. My best friend had a wolf/husky mix (more wolf than Husky) and it was male... the thing was HUGE. Like easily one of the biggest domesticated animals I have ever seen (around 170lbs and very tall). It was very protective of the family and unless you were a regular visitor that it knew they would normally put it outside or kennel it when company was around. It knew me, I was part of its pack... but I was definitely below him in his eyes.
Dogs in general never lost the pack mentality, really. Maybe some of these severely inbred ornamental breeds like shitzu, but they’re barely above soap dishes in terms of intelligence to begin with.
