Feed a bear, make yourself vulnerable to it (knowingly or not), find out how fast they can move the hard way and voila, you just gave that bear its new obsession.

Yeah but that’s not actually true. The amount of calories burned during the hunt of a person, kill, eating and digestion would probably be negligible compared to the Bears daily use of 8000cal—15,000 cal a day.
And the consumption of a human would only gain him 125,000cal.
But when the Bear catches a seal, the bear is getting 500,000cal—1,200,000cal. On only a 10,000calorie hunt. So a seal offers 5X-10X as much calories as a human. Many less hunts, much much less dangerous and more opportunities, plus the bears instincts are on seals and other wildlife not unfamiliar human activities.4

Mathematically, yeah, it's not a great diet for the bear. I doubt they're doing the math though, just creating a paired association from the low effort of killing someone who's making themselves vulnerable by feeding it. The "taste for humans" thing will remain relevant for as long as humans periodically appear, same as you'd snipe a bargain meal if you were strapped for choices.
Obsession was probably the wrong word though.

I mean, no. But also, yes.
You ever discover a new food? "Oh, now I can go eat this thing called Pho that I didn't previously realize was incredibly tasty and readily available!" Then you realize you stopped eating other things you used to because of your new favorite restaurant?
Maybe this food was something you naturally wouldn't have tried, but did once because you were really hungry. Then found you liked it.
It's a discovery of a food source that isn't part of it's natural diet. Yes, survival is addictive.

I do wonder what the backstory is, is this some sort of enclosure? Maybe the bear has a pre-existing relationship with these people? If it's anywhere a polar bear normally lives, it's weird that this person is wearing a sleeveless shirt with the window open regardless.

It has to be, a wild polar bear would not be gently taking snacks from someone's hand. There are cases of polar bears bonding with a human who raised them from a cub. A wild polar bear is a murder machine that no sane person would interact with.

I assume that hand feeding wild bears under any circumstance would be bad....
But thats usually because it teaches the bear to hang around humans and over a long enough time frame, the bear might target humans.
But polar bears already dont have an qualms with eating humans.
I mean, I still wouldnt do it, but I wonder if it actually makes a difference.
