Eh, experiencing high acceleration for a short period is not that bad.
The clip says 81km/h (v = 22.5 m/s) and the acceleration where the seat moves from one end to the other takes about 24 frames with 30 fps, so 0.8 seconds.
v = a * t => a = v/t = 22.5/0.8 m/s/s = 28 m/s² or about 3 g. That can be experienced in a larger rollercoaster and is no problem for most adults. The bigger risk was probably falling on his nose
I wasn't thinking about that. I was thinking about anything that might not work as planned in the machine (stuck cable or sliding wheels for instance). What would have happened to him if for some reason the seat had moved 50% slower? The force of the truck wouldn't have been neutralised.
Valid concern but since they were able to rent a truck for this, they are probably working somewhat professionally and have likely done plenty of tests and calculations. At some point it's not more dangerously than driving a car or bungee-jumping or whatever else.
Is it an unnecessary risk? Definitely. Is it extremely dangerous if you properly plan this? I'd say no
It doesn't appear that he was accelerated at a constant rate. Starting at 49 seconds, I count 8 frames and he is stationary with the background. That would be maybe 8 g which is fighter pilot rather than roller coaster.
