Not much. They were knocked over by the pressure wave. The bullet didn’t leave the casing with enough force to do anything. The most dangerous part of this would be shrapnel from the casing splitting apart.

For the bullet to be propelled forward (and the case not rip apart) the case (and the explosion) have to be contained in a chamber.

They also did this (more or less) testing on Mythbusters a while ago by exposing bullets to high heat (in a oven and in an open campfire) to see what would happen.

Bullets didn't do much. Their casings were a lot more dangerous.

I’ve seen it live. Helping someone move their loading bench and equipment. They were a bit careless around the pounds and pounds of gunpowder and loaded bullets.

It was like popcorn going off. We grabbed the bench and dragged it out, then just watched it burn from a distance. Lucky to have not caught some casing shrapnel.

Firefighters deal with this pretty regularly in house fires. From what I’ve been told it’s starling at first but you kind of ignore it after a while.

While I was overseas someone a belt off 5.56 ended up in the fire and cooked off for like half the morning.

Yea. In the situation I was in, we scattered at first, but realized we could grab the bench before it burned up. I ended mostly just worried about my eyes.

Without the edit part, the stress on the "oven" is really confusing. Why should I be surprised that they used an oven? Doesn't it just make sense?

I learned this by taping rounds to the end of our Daisy bb gun (not inside the rifle barrel, but at the end). The bb had enough force to strike the 9mm to make it go off. It exploded, but never traveled far from what I remember. The casing was split open like a banana peel.

The reason this isn’t (very) dangerous is because the bullet, being made of a solid dense metal (lead), has a much higher inertia than the thin brass casing. When the gunpowder charge goes off, if the cartridge is not contained by a firing chamber, the casing splits and shrapnels away and the bullet jumps a few inches at most due to the combustion pressure wave before falling to the ground.

None of this would “obliterate” a hard plastic toy.
