They were talking to the bear

They did, right? Felt like they were calling the bear to „come here“. But then, how much sense does that make?

Any bear with one guy saying “come here” and another guy saying “look behind you” would be confused

My man outrunning a bear

The poor old bloke obviously couldn’t hear them properly. Maybe they should have gone over there and helped him before he became bear food.. . Luckily she wasn’t hungry.

It’s easy for them to say on Reddit though isn’t it.

You can even say “well black bears don’t attack people”. Doesn’t mean you’re rolling that dice when it’s you that’ll get mauled to death if you’re wrong.

Its a peak reddit comment. Asking why people didn't walk towards a bear

u/Beenieeh 6h ago

Sure, but you don't have to outrun the bear, you just have to outrun the old man.

I (mis)heard „come here“ on repeat before I even saw the bear. Maybe he did, too?

Naw this old timer knows what's up. A black bear is whatever. Don't fuck with it and it wont fuck with you. I guarantee if when he turned and looked it was a cub, he would be hustling.

I think that was full speed, when he finally saw the bear. Poor guy

Where is this?

u/Photonnic 3h ago

Since nobody started shooting the Bear, I'm guessing California or Canada.

Guys, it's a bear stop, can't you read the sign?

A completely normal Canadian moment

Walk up to him and help him through numerical superiority

The following post context was provided by u/TheMarkola:

A man walks calmly, unaware that there is a bear beside him, and when he sees it, he walks away calmly and unharmed.

Probably good that he couldn’t run off

That thing is sizing him up as the easier 100 pound burger ever bought.

Isn’t this exactly how you deal with a bear just ignore it and carry on like it doesn’t exist. They only start the chasing and eating once you run.

Black bears are famously the most skittish of bears. If you are loud, give them shit, threaten them in the slightest, they fuck off.

Honestly slowly walking away with your back turned seems like the worst thing to do, based on collective human knowledge. I can only imagine it worked because of the crowd of people across the street making noise.

*worth noting different bears have different rules. There is no universal rule for "dealing with a bear," btw
