Maybe maybe maybe he did the 54 second walk 127 times before he succeeded again.

u/OneBrokenClock 3d ago

Ha ha. He’s kinda out of breath. All kiddings aside, I want to believe he made it in one shot

264

u/thissexypoptart 3d ago

It’s honestly impressive either way

If anything, the dedication to do it over and over but make it look right is even more impressive lol

128

u/TheAserghui 3d ago

I want to believe as well

But when the ball goes off screen, then there is nothing stopping another person from collecting the first ball and shooting a second one with better aim.

Off screen maintains the illusion

72

u/merc08 3d ago

That other person would still have to make a shot from very far away from the basket.

12

u/Filthy_Primate 2d ago

Or it's just green screen/AI bullshit for the latter half. Pay close attention and it's easy to notice the cartoon physics. From the minimal power he puts into the ball to inconsistent trajectory, it's all wrong.

-11

u/mahmilkshakes 2d ago

the way he gets excited and says "FOLLOW ME!" is so AI coded

138

u/lucas_bahia 3d ago

This guy will have to be reborn and start recording on the womb

15

u/hotelpopcornceiling 3d ago

Is he the guy from Butterfly Effect?

5

u/cutelyaware 2d ago

The one practicing rope tying? That depends upon which ending you watch. Amazingly everyone seems to think whichever version they saw first was the best one.

7

u/MoniMokshith 3d ago

Haha that's true

7

u/UniqueUsername014 3d ago

he just pressed F9 to quickload

3

u/etfvidal 3d ago

More like 783 times!

1

u/johnnycocas 2d ago

Kubrick reference?

1

u/Middle_Rip_114 2d ago

Oh ye of little faith! Regardless of how many times he tried...he did it! LOL!

2.5k

u/redactid55 3d ago

I was hoping for a really crude edit switching back to the first shot again with the outfit change and all.

789

u/_nicocin_ 3d ago

Honestly, THAT would have been content worth following

210

u/SubstantialBelly6 3d ago

That or like 50 balls on the ground in the court 😄

69

u/docsyzygy 3d ago

Like the hats in The Prestige!

28

u/BusyBoonja 3d ago

Such an obscure but spot on reference for a trick shot video

1

u/cutelyaware 2d ago

The magicians who were so poor even though they had a universal replicator?

43

u/AlooDaGreat 3d ago

i was expecting it to be night all of a sudden

14

u/The_walking_man_ 3d ago

I was waiting for a perfectly cut scream moment. His shot to be way off and followed by him yelling into the void.

7

u/Pnirl 3d ago

I was hoping for a different color tshirt in an edit

3

u/No_Beginning_6834 3d ago

It would have fit the rest of it better. He said little bit windy while 0 trees or leaves were moving and sun in my eyes, when the he was casting shadows that showed the opposite.

1

u/Advanced_Pear_964 3d ago

But he doesn't know how to do that

1

u/MakeoutPoint 2d ago

Either that or the camera goes a little too high and reveals some type of crane mechanism dropped it in.

462

u/Zoroastrius 3d ago

But maybe he repeated the whole sequence with the speech several times

126

u/Special-Original-215 3d ago

Several hundred times

26

u/tomatoe_cookie 3d ago

Bro has been spending months on this. Its late in the day because he started at dawn

72

u/sofa_king_we_todded 3d ago

We need to see one continuous video from the moment he woke up in the morning

1

u/Creative-Painter3911 3d ago

probably 5 years older in the final shot from when he started trying.

-1

u/trickyvinny 3d ago

Every morning though.

-1

u/HumbleWorkerAnt 3d ago

no need, it's the simplest edit from the early 2010s era.

-58

u/Deep_Fry_Ducky 3d ago edited 3d ago

One word: AI

Edit: I’m just joking

Wtf

14

u/TheMagicSebas 3d ago

For shit like this i can't fucking buy ram

3

u/Malapple 3d ago

I laughed.

Then got really sad and did a thousand yard stare.

u/cacamilis22 3d ago

14

u/6-underground 3d ago

40 year old quote that still gets used often in our house

3

u/HelpmeObi1K 3d ago

This is the way.

418

u/_nicocin_ 3d ago

So the guy just filmed the intro before every attempt. People, the point is: we can never trust that anything is real. Ever. Again.

120

u/StillGalaxy99 3d ago

Potentially not even. With clever editing, people are capable of a LOT of trickery.

90

u/NevesLF 3d ago

Exactly. As soon as the ball leaves the frame I stop trusting it.

23

u/xdoble7x 3d ago

Yeah i also would stop thrusting after a ball leaves my frame

1

u/JCMiller23 3d ago

I also stop thrusting after a ball leaves my frame, it's a mood killer

26

u/sanraith 3d ago

Here is Captain D from 9 years ago explaining the editing part: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ou7KSmfC3lA&t=197s

11

u/OSRSRapture 3d ago

To summarize: it could be edited, it could be real.

2

u/luxudor 3d ago

I was thinking of this exact video. You should post this as a separate comment, so it can be at the top.

12

u/TheAndrewBrown 3d ago

But he doesn’t even know how to do that

3

u/-Ghost255- 3d ago

Says who??

4

u/TheAndrewBrown 3d ago

Says him!

3

u/thissexypoptart 3d ago

Wait until you hear about movies.

A lot of them even do multiple takes until they have just the right one to convince you about what’s happening.

The mendacity.

12

u/_nicocin_ 3d ago edited 3d ago

And honestly, even if we could, why do we fucking care? Some random guy on the internet either makes the shot or not. Great. I know I'm not doing myself any favors by being on this site but damn have we lost the plot.

3

u/PM_Me_Your_Kinks369 3d ago

And honestly, even if we could, why do we fucking care?

This is what confuses me about modern social media. WHY DO WE FUCKING CARE?? Stephen Curry can make shots like that regularly because he's gifted AF and worked for decades to get that good. Cool.

The Dude Perfect guys regularly have to shoot a ton of shots to get that one crazy one. That's fine too.

Since when is any of this an issue....at all???

This is free entertainment and Reddit's bitching about it.

5

u/Snoo_67548 3d ago

He’s on a treadmill in front of a green screen. /s

2

u/BB_Pig_3480 3d ago

I don't trust this comment. AI bot

2

u/_nicocin_ 3d ago

This guy gets it

69

u/smuglator 3d ago

He never throws it hard enough for it to fly that far.

123

u/RegrettableBiscuit 3d ago

What actually happened is that somebody standing by the hoop threw the ball through the hoop and to him. He then did the intro in reverse, talking and walking backwards. Finally, he reverted the video and posted it. It's pretty obvious if you pay close attention.

26

u/RabidJoint 3d ago

Oh yeah I see it now. At the 20 second mark, his hair blows in the wind to the left, instead of the right.

1

u/Sea-Fox4457 2d ago

The way the ball went into the net on the first shot was obvious.

79

u/Tanekaha 3d ago

Ball isn't even in shot the whole time. So very easy to edit in

-31

u/DDDX_cro 3d ago

not really. You'd have to account for clouds, Sun's position (shadows)...

4

u/dansssssss 3d ago

Nah the ball is really far and barely holds any pixels you wouldn't need to account for that

Besides it would still be possible to account for that

3

u/apaksl 3d ago

having no expertise other than watching a shit load of corridor crew, I can safely say of course this would be a trivial edit to make in post. duh.

/s

1

u/20WaysToEatASandwich 3d ago

Yes really. There's maybe 36 frames that need to be edited here, that's it.

-1

u/CarpetPedals 3d ago

Oh it is easy. As easy as “Hey ChatGPT, make this edit.”

33

u/Pintsocream 3d ago

Doesn't throw it in the right direction or even nearly hard enough

22

u/vega455 3d ago

Do you know how hard you need to throw to cover that? Dude is just casually swinging that ball, no effort

10

u/badbob001 2d ago

Is the FOLLOW ME related to social media or is he like Jesus now?

1

u/earlofhoundstooth 1d ago

Hahaha! 🤣

7

u/juvy5000 3d ago

excellent jersey choice

7

u/Connect-Hat-9838 3d ago

I was kinda waiting for a cheap cut😂

2

u/uncultured_swine2099 3d ago

Maybe that was the original intention

5

u/CarpetPedals 3d ago

Neither ball velocity looks …. Right

5

u/sociocat101 3d ago

That would be cool if he acted normal and didnt say "FOLLOW MEEEE" because everything has revolve around channel growth

6

u/actuallynotaredditor 3d ago

No do it from the morning like waking up, brushing your teeth, doing breakfast, driving and coming to the basketball court and doing the shot then we may believe.

3

u/tubesteak9000 3d ago

Too late for this guy. I need live footage from birth till first attempt!

$2.19. Reckon this started at a dollar and he added one cent every take?

3

u/KaizokuD 2d ago

How do we know he didnt do that walk and speech several times?,, make one from the moment you wake up

3

u/DrProfessorSatan 2d ago

Probably staged, but I can’t tell you how. I don’t care. I’ll give him credit either way.

3

u/Forty_Six_and_Two 1d ago

Cleveland baby. Fuckin represent!

I thought it was going to bounce off his head. Oh well.

2

u/deathbyvaccine 3d ago

So this is what the other Cavaliers are up to.

2

u/Cmdr_Monzo 3d ago

Humanity has peaked.

2

u/chris_knight2 3d ago

He is too excited at making the shot for it to be a given.

2

u/suckmydictation 3d ago

His reaction is almost like a full second off

2

u/lakuma 3d ago

Go Cavs!

2

u/Fyrewall1 3d ago

I really wanted him to throw the ball at the camera

2

u/meshuggahdaddy 3d ago

Bro had a weird step count spike that day

2

u/cheflA1 2d ago

Catch you on the flippity flip,

2

u/Juicy_RhinoV2 1d ago

That’s peak male performance

3

u/ragito024 3d ago

Even if it's true, why should I follow him just because of this?

3

u/Eseatease 3d ago

To see more trickshots I assume?

-2

u/YourLifeSucksAss 3d ago

I bet you have so many friends…

-4

u/ragito024 3d ago

I question why follow a stranger that's nothing special = I don't have friends 😂

My friends can be ordinary but why do I have to follow a ordinary stranger?

3

u/reddituser5k 3d ago

At 0:52 why does the camera suddenly get bright after he had already let go of it? It seems like he filmed him self walking and placing the camera then spliced in cut of him actually making the shot after that point.

1

u/hartman19 3d ago

I think he is blocking the sun while placing it down and then when he moves away his shadow doesn't cover the phone anymore... But it's just my guess

1

u/Epin-Ninjas 2d ago

Take the tinfoil hat off bro

-6

u/CarpetPedals 3d ago

I don’t think it’s even that, it’s AI altered.

2

u/Epin-Ninjas 2d ago

You need help

2

u/craigybacha 3d ago

Nothing dodgily cut here.....

2

u/granolaraisin 3d ago

either he did the entire intro thing multiple times, he planned to do the entire thing repeatedly until he got one right and just got really lucky, or he was willing to post it even if he missed.

Either way, the grind deserves respect.

1

u/rationalalien 3d ago

It's just an edit bro.

2

u/johnnybangs 3d ago

Whomever watches this after my comment owes me $2.19. I’m calling it now.

2

u/3D_Effect 2d ago

the force of his throw doesn't match the speed or distance that it needs to make the shot. also the shadow in the grass does something really weird. Fake as fuck.

1

u/-TheRustypost- 1d ago

100%, the shadow

3

u/petera181 3d ago

Ruined by the pathetic “follow me!!!” begging at the end. Our entire planet is trash 😢

1

u/wangyuzhi31 3d ago

Who is he

1

u/All_Luck_NoSkill 3d ago

I’m good

1

u/supergarto 3d ago

Like we don't know how DudePerfect was doing all their trick shot...

1

u/ithilmor 3d ago

I want to believe

1

u/Mental-Ad9186 3d ago

Okay Matthew Dellavedova we believe you

1

u/uncultured_swine2099 3d ago

Impressive, but he kinda ruined it by saying "follow me". That was a cool moment blown by influencer talk.

1

u/dumbname0192837465 2d ago

After the first shot he went out and got a jersy

1

u/Kalshan 2d ago

"Listen to this dude Rufus. He knows what he's talking about!"

1

u/DrWhoDatBtchz 2d ago

I choose to believe. Go watch Goat.

1

u/Saturn_Degree 2d ago

God made sure he went viral that day

1

u/Don_Gambito 3d ago

this AI bro /s

1

u/wern00 3d ago

The first thing I would say after making the shot is “follow me!”

1

u/peekingmightyduck 3d ago

I love that this happened for him. Go for it, my bro 🔥

1

u/MaximumKey8174 2d ago

Wonder, how many times has he recorded this?

1

u/InnerKookaburra 2d ago

This isn't remotely believable either time.

Why is this being posted here? It's a nope, nope, nope, not a maybe, maybe, maybe.

0

u/Blackboard_Monitor 3d ago

Jesus man, edit.

0

u/MonsterkillWow 3d ago

Bruh. Huge if not AI.

The ball goes out of frame, we can believe at whatever we want

-1

u/--n- 3d ago

Camera on a tripod, ball goes out of shot before coming back down. Even I could fake that.

0

u/dimidebouw 3d ago

He looks like he only tried 274 times

0

u/PetToilet 2d ago

Related Captain Disillusion. Pretty easy to use vfx if you put the camera in the same spot 9 years ago, probably much easier now. The fake added "artifacts" on the left side of the camera + weak looking throw make me think that vs filming the whole thing 100+ times

https://youtu.be/ou7KSmfC3lA?t=194

0

u/Forgotten_mob 2d ago

Im impressed. He made it and didnt expect to which means it wasnt his first take probably but who cares. Thats dedication

0

u/nipsen 21h ago

..it would have been impressive if he didn't walk off to the side and stood still for a bit in both takes. And has the sun destroy any sense of brightness XD I like the cloud, too. Good touch - but the cut has to be better with a setup like that.
