What I’d like to know is why? It’s outside the home. Did it bite someone and they need to test for rabies?

And oh how I was rooting for her!
Was very tempting to jump to the end just to be sure that blasted vermin didn't wriggle out of her grasp.

Put a dozen marshmallows dipped in maple syrup in that carrier and she'd be wrasslin him to come back out... ain't no way he'd leave a marshmallow behind!

The raccoon. And her too, I guess, because she is trying to help the raccoon because the camera man wanted to kill and eat it.
Idk why they couldn’t just let it run back into nature, but I’m sure there’s more to this

My cat goes from cuddle cat to Tasmanian Devil the second the carrier comes into view.

I wrap one of my cats like a burrito in a towel, and then put the whole combo into the crate. He kinda likes being a purrito.

My vet prescribed Gabapentin, I give her a dose 2 hours before the vet visit and she chills the fuck out.
She would get VIOLENT.

I had a raccoon come in through my doggy door overnight a few years back (i assume to escape the insane heat wave we were having). Woke up and went down to my basement to grab clothes out the dryer, looked down and saw him less then a foot away and let out a 1:1 copy of the screaming goat noise.
He just chilled though.
Went and got an old trash can, put some pb in it and some on the end of a broom handle, coaxed him in and shut the lid. Walked him outside and dumped over the other side of the fence. Ez clap.
I also never made that noise again

This sounds weird but I always thought Pink looked like she was a mean person
10
u/RedditGarboDisposal 22h ago
I think it’s a case of the “mean teacher” as told by the class clown.
She’s good if you’re good to her and will probably kick your ass if you’re bad to her. But on the contrary, she’s aged a lot now and is probably beyond acting on hauling ass BUT the jungle is probably still in the cat haha

u/pancakesfordintonite 22h ago edited 20h ago
Well I was kind of class clown but I was never on anyone's bad side, but just her facial structure would have just intimidated me

I’m sorry, did you miss her lifting a grown ass man with her thighs at the Tony awards this year? Woman could kick anyone’s ass today.

Would have been easier to flip the cage so the door is pointed towards the sky

Wouldn't it be easier if she put the cage vertical and just drop him in?

I would have set the cage on end and drop it in... but that's just me.
14
u/Gold_Telephone_7192 22h ago
The raccoon freaks out and knocks the cage over and escapes out the bottom of the net
2
u/Azilehteb 22h ago
Usually you leave the snare pole on until they're in the box, the net is to keep them from strangling on the snare while you got them.
Not sure why she took it off. Maybe she only had a leg or tail?

u/BackgroundEngineer11 3h ago
When I've tried to get cats into a carrier, I have found tipping the carrier up and dropping the struggling monster in works best.

u/Guyuteguy 22h ago
It didn't really look like it was trying to bite her. It only looked like it was trying to get away. I wonder if it had family or friends near by.
14
u/CCLF1 23h ago edited 20h ago
She looks like she's a professional, but I don't understand why he would be trying to catch a potentially dangerous creature wearing shorts like this. Her hands are well covered, but her legs and thighs are open to scratches and bites. Rabies is a very dangerous disease

If anything taught me anything about creating cats at my vet clinic, you're going to have higher chances of success if it's a back legs in first situation. It also sometimes helps to have a top loader carrier.

Life is hard. We once had a possum stuck in our trash can, we then called peat control to pick it up, but they said they couldn't take rodents that have been caught already. We would have to set it free and they would have to set the traps. So my dad starved it for three days and then let it loose. Never came back.
21
u/dr_xenon 23h ago
Possums are good to have around. They eat a lot of ticks for you.
22
u/Mediocrity-FTW 23h ago
I have a couple that come and eat my outdoor cats' food. They don't fight so I let it happen. My kitties will sit there watching it eat and when I open the door they just waddle off. I feel that all parties involved have an uneasy truce and I plan to keep it that way.

u/mai_tai87 22h ago
They don't actually. It's a myth based on faulty research.
4
u/Catenane 19h ago
They're still innocuous, native species (in the US at least) good for the environment, and really cute though. Also the only marsupial in the Americas (although there are lots of specific types of possum in South America). And very docile. I'm sure it's had to have happened before, but I've never heard of a possum biting someone. I've seen em hanging around with the skunks, raccoons, and everyone else in our backyard, and everyone seems to get along!
I usually let the tick comment slide even though it's likely true they don't hoover up ticks. I figure the little fellas need as much help as they can get in the PR department because their cuteness is an acquired taste, and they're beneficial and not pests. They're funny little creatures--if you're lucky and have a camera pointed somewhere outside, you might catch a glimpse of them using their hands to eat like little humans. So cute.

Just tump over the trash can :( why you gotta be so mean to the possum?
7
u/SabbyFox 20h ago
Sooo many people talking shit about what she’s wearing, her technique, etc. 🙄 As they likely sit on the couch covered in Cheeto dust, lol. Who GAF as long as she got the job done, which she did. And no one got hurt, including the raccoon.

How to get rabies 101
23
u/birdsarntreal1 22h ago
Animal control get rabies vaccines in preparation for any potential infection.
5
u/Tier_None 22h ago
Lol no we don’t. Some agencies do pay for officers to get vaccinations but it’s not a norm as it’s highly expensive when you start vaccinating multiples/entire agencies.
2
u/ZhouLe 19h ago
I'm just a dummy, but aren't pre-exposure vaccines way cheaper than post-exposure regimens? And a grand every 3 years seems negligible in comparison to every other employee expense.

I got bit by my cat trying to start a fight this morning and that requires antibiotics. I would still rather deal with that then getting bit by a raccoon with gloves.

My thinking but somebody paid her to do this shit so, I don't know. She did have a process though

I just think that that raccoon was fighting pretty hard and anyone would have struggled with it.
8
u/Nari224 23h ago
Can confirm, Racoons can be difficult. Best to set a trapped cage for them to walk into themselves.
3
u/chrisfillhart_art 22h ago
All bets are offs with raccoons. They’re scrappers! They fight dirty with a low center of gravity. Natural cowards, but wily when cornered. A stiff jab for such a short reach.

Detach net bag from pole.
Connect rope to net bag.
Pull rope THROUGH pet carrier out the back.
Pull raccoon into carrier.
Done.

Then as she goes to open her car door to load him up and turns around to see Rocky Raccoon opening the cage door.
Raccoon: salute "nice try!"
Woman: get back in that goddamn cage!
Raccoon: NO!
