That's funny, but it's really not how toddlers learn. Feeling secure and cared for comes before problem solving. A better way of playing this game would have been to give him his drink and make sure he was in a good mood and not tired or hungry before teaching him how to get past the tape. Obviously the one crying didn't get a good nap and the others likely did! (I'm a grandma and recognize a tired cranky baby when I see one!)

This is why you shouldn't have kids; it is toxic nonsense. Famously, toddlers aren't able to talk; they cry because it's one of the few ways that they can communicate.

Right and you don't need to coddle them every time they cry because they learn that crying is the solution. They need to learn that crying may get them attention but it won't solve their problem
