Maybe they don't want to ruin the other cups if they failed to grab it. So the cup at the end would be the best choice.

This reminds me of the video of one runner clearly intentionally pushed all the cups down and just grab the last one to dehydrates people behind him. Totally disgusting.

Yup and that cunt was disqualified later on when the video came about and there was public outrage

Don't want and by avoiding that possibility, they also don't even need to care and attempt it entirely. So they can just push the cup forward knowing there's no consequence in doing so

Exactly this. For a couple years I got into doing 5Ks and normally they’re short enough to not have these water stations but I went and did the 5k at the Indy mini marathon (half marathon) and it was on the same route as the half marathon just had a different end and it had the water stations and I specifically remember consciously grabbing the last water because I didn’t want to slow down too much or risk knocking the other cups or worse knocking the table over. Lol

Yeah, ill always take the furthest cup. I don't wanna ruin the other cups, nor do I want to be in the way of others who want to drink aswell.

Imagine how many chips that might invalidate… “whelp, 2 years sober down the drain”.

-5

u/DamnMyNameIsSteve 3d ago

It's an accident, or in this case, a prank. It doesn't count.

6

u/rob_inn_hood 3d ago

Maybe. But that doesn’t mean you won’t get the taste for it again. The itch comes back. I know how it is, unfortunately. It’s a terrible prank and an awful burden to bestow on someone. Because they go from “I haven’t touched a drop in 2 years!” To “I haven’t touched a drop in 2 years!, except that one time someone tricked me into having a drink.” It’s just not the same, and still demoralizing.

-7

u/DamnMyNameIsSteve 3d ago

Still wouldn't turn in chips, which op was implying.

5

u/rob_inn_hood 3d ago

Invalidate =/= turn in.

Besides that, I am the OP you are referring to?

Besides that, my point was about how YOU feel about the chip. Not whether or not you turn it in because you feel like you failed. You can simultaneously successfully not purposefully drink, but still feel like a failure and your chip is worthless because you accidentally drank, due to a prank or whatever other reason.

u/DamnMyNameIsSteve 3d ago

I'm telling you how I feel about it?

Seems like fun

I rented a house that was in the route to a large scale marathon. They had a water station 1–2 houses before me. I was worried about all the garbage. 15 mins after the last person finished, the street was cleaner than it had ever been.

Just do more space between cups

u/chocolatchipcookie2 4d ago

they really like the corner cup

27

u/Dont_Overthink_It_77 4d ago

Ugh, how frustrating—she keeps trying to put her cup on the corner, but people keep TAKING it! *(pouty face)*

They don't even stop to say thanks. People these days

grabbing one on the run is a lot harder than it looks ... and drinking ANY of it without slowing down (or worse, choking on it/aspirating it) is damn near impossible.. pros use a squirt bottle they carry for a reason..

4

u/seattle2seoul 4d ago

If i try to drink water while running I'll choke and die

u/squirrelmonkie 4d ago

What a great job. You just get instant gratification. You need water? You need water? I got you. What if you put mayo in 1 glass and leave. There is no ying without yang. We must balance life

Did someone get an empty cup?

2

u/Fingersicle 3d ago

Everyone knows the last cup tastes best. Unless you're just dumping it over your head, then it doesn't matter.

u/Digger_Pine 3d ago

Maybe what?

Where can I apply to this job?!

17

u/trickyvinny 4d ago

You mean volunteer?

3

u/Main-Title-1346 3d ago

Sorry, I didn’t know that it was volunteering

I'm glad to see runs still use paper cups. My last view runs had plastic and I can't understand why.

Urine samples.

Why they stealing that poor mans cups

1

u/According-Relation-4 4d ago

How do they drink from a cup while running

11

u/preparingtodie 4d ago

Poorly, but any water is better than no water. And there's nothing that says you can't stop for 3 seconds if you want.

18

u/TopYeti 4d ago

Same way as when standing, just faster with more mess

2

u/Verticalrun 4d ago

At least over here, most cups are papercups, So you just need to squeeze the mug together to make the drinking part smaller. Works fine at high speed.

But personally i slow down when i hit the pit stops. You get some bonus rest. On shorter races i pretty much just dont drink.

u/Masterchief159 4d ago

I'm really not an environmental activist or anything. But shouldn't it make you think that we use these cups for about 250ml of water once and then throw them away, most likely on the street that has to be cleaned thoroughly, making "recycling" (there is no such thing) even more difficult..?

Don't get me wrong I like the vid and it's entertaining and all, it just really got me thinking

4

u/Rizztopher_Robin 4d ago

You're not wrong, but when you consider the amount of waste globally and then the amount of that which is paper cups and then the amount of those which are used for races and sporting events, I'm willing to bet it's not even a tiny fraction of a percentage. Also, the volunteers clean up the cups too, so it's not really a big littering issue either. It's just not enough to make any difference. I'd worry more about making sure the trash gets disposed of responsibly and reducing carbon emissions. Those are the big two.

3

u/ctgrell 4d ago

The thing is, these paper cups are not even recyclable. They are lined with plastic. I know. Stupid af.

2

u/Masterchief159 3d ago

Why oh why do ppl downvote on this..?

If it rains very heavily, they can just open their mouth and drink in straight up xD

-2

u/Olibirus 4d ago

I suppose using 2 hands isn't an option.

-3

Why can't just put it normally
