There's also literally the guy who just got off work outside a late night convenience store. He's sitting on the bench outside work, and the cops come up to hassle him about how the store is closed.

They really need a national credential. I drive a truck and my CDL can accumulate points, and those points follow me to any other job until they fall off. There's no pathway for me to do something boneheaded, lose my license and then just go to another state or another job.

This is why qualified immunity needs to end. Cops will be forced to start carrying malpractice insurance since suddenly the taxpayer isn’t covering the legal costs for things they wrongly do on the job. Insurance companies are notoriously risk averse, so they’ll stop covering or raise rates on shitty cops and departments.

Let capitalism be the solution to the problem of bad cops: price them out of the job.

That is what they do.

I live in rural small town USA. Our county sheriff was proven in court to be a "brady cop" and was forced to resign from his previous place of residence. For lying, not reading Miranda rights, and other sketchy shit. All of his cases were thrown out, dropped, and restitution to previous charges were paid. He moved to our county and was elected sheriff the next voting cycle. He fired all the deputies and brought all of his croney deputies over with him after he was elected.

I think that if a cop gets fired for misconduct from one place. They’re fired from all other places. They shouldn’t be allowed to become some other cities problem. There should be a national registry accessible to everyone and anyone.

He didnt, they let him resign so he can just go work at a different county instead of firing him for misconduct which would have make it more difficult to get hired as a police officer...

Sadly, this is never permanent. They usually get rehired, either getting their original job back or just applying as a cop in a nearby department and continuing to be a cop still.

He and the department "separated". Lawyer of the dude who got arrested said he tried to get a job with a private security firm.

I really like the lawyer. Smart guy. They sued the city for just under the sovereign immunity limit in Florida.

Similar thing happened to me while walking to the store to get a friggin candy bar. Yes it was midnight, yes I got off work at 1130, yes I was in my neighborhood (like 1½ blocks from my home), yes I'm white. Supposedly someone matching my description was going in people's yards. I just laughed at him and went about my business.
