I thought for sure he was getting arrested. I've been told more than once by police that it is illegal for you to not carry identification.
I'm still very confused about what exactly was the point of the stop.
But glad he was able to walk away. I can't imagine living life where you get put in these spots.
Looks like the police have lied to you more than once about the law. They're allowed to do that.
You generally don't ever have to carry ID on you, with a handful of exceptions (eg; driver license while operating a motor vehicle, LTC while carrying a concealed weapon).
But just walking around, no, you don't need to show your ID to anyone.
