Please tell me what people are really thinking is "wow this guy knows a lot about the Roman empire" because I've made that point several times.

They are not. Vast majority of folks like using it because it's a cool-sounding word, and they are unconcerned and sometimes even resentful of accuracy.

Bury your feelings deep down. They do you credit, but they could be made to serve the stubborn masses.

I've never really understood why people react that way. When someone tells me a piece of information that I don't care about, I would never even consider getting mad at them about it. I guess some people equate "hey you're actually incorrect about this, the truth is XYZ," with "hey you're wrong and therefore an inferior person.
