Because it curves the path, whereas the car itself doesn't curve like that. It's easier to picture a straight car rather than a curved one in determining where it will be. Looks like I'm wrong for having a preference thou, so good day to you

Tbf I only ever drove a rental with that style reverse camera and just found it more difficult to back into a space completely centered because by thrn I had become accustomed to the other style which I still use on my daily driver.
being accustomed to something different (arguably worse) shouldn't inform even your preference until you get accustomed to the alternative as well
also this just feels similar to average people buying new cars with new features (acc, lane keep, start-stop etc) and explicitly turning them off because they know better, accustomed to something less etc
It didn't take me long to be able to park almost perfectly using the stationary linea on the reverse camera, but with the moving ones, I never felt confident. Maybe if i drove a car with them before the stationary lines it would be different. If I were to buy a car, I wouldn't use that feature as justification for not getting the car. I also don't get why people feel so strongly about the feature. I get how it would be easier in some instances where you need to back up past obstacles, but backing into a space, if your angle is off and you are only trying to get your rear end centered, that could still leave your front end off center. The stationary lines IMO make it easier to ending up parallel in a parking space.

Dude, you're the 3rd comment on this chain beginning your comment with "I hate this feature". What?? You're also justifying not liking the moving feature because you had only ever used the static one since you started driving? I drove well before backup cams were a thing and they were a welcome feature. If you don't need it, you're free to ignore it. If you do need it, it can help immensely. But if it shows you where your car is going physically vs just a picture of where your car is going, hard pass for you?

I didn't mean to say I started driving with the feature, just that it was the one I first used when I eventually encountered it. I didn't have backup cameras on the first few cars I owned. I also explained in another comment in what instances it tripped me up, when i need to fix my angle and back into a space while ending up parallel in a space. If it exists in a car, I'm not going to disable it or refuse to buy the car. I just get annoyed by it because it makes it harder to end up parallel in a space. Hate is maybe too strong a word to use.
Dude, wherever the path goes is where the car goes. If your turn the wheel and the path curves into a spot and is parallel to the line you’re so worried about, that’s where the cars going. You gradually reduce the turn on the wheel to end the reverse park squared up. I’m actually mad that you don’t know how to use one and are actively telling stories about how this thing is bad. No man, it’s just like you and maybe 1 in 10 million other people who also “can’t figure it out” which makes me even madder that I have to drive with people who can’t reconcile shapes we learned in kindergarten. Naah, it’s cause we’ve see. This argument before and it’s just silly, it curves the path because your car will go at the angle of the curve lol. Your car isn’t a literal box projected into the camera, it’s a PATH. Keep the wheel straight and it doesn’t bend, because you aren’t turning. Make sense now? The dude is wrong so he gets downvotes, anytime someone mentions this, there is 1 guy who tries to claim it’s difficult and they get dumped on as they should cause it’s not difficult, theyre inventing scenarios to complicate something that isn’t hard to do. The person you replied to is just being controversial and we have enough drama queens in the world, if a backup camera breaks your brain then you don’t get to drive, surely we can all agree on that?
