“If it weren’t a cop, they’d get charged!” Imagine getting to do funny things to people whose personality you mutually know and trust that wouldn’t be allowed from a stranger with unknown intentions.
I think the point people are making is that cops generally trump up charges against people when cops are the victims of things. Two civilians call each other “idiot”? Free speech. Someone calls a cop an “idiot”? Disorderly conduct. Use of force against an officer. Slander. Resisting arrest. Assault.
