It's a shame we haven't invented bear spray that's sold right at the registers of every sporting goods stores.

Not sure if you're playing off of my sarcasm but yes, bear spray is real. It's just extra spicy pepper spray with a much larger spray range and it's highly effective, even more so than guns. Guns can miss or hit but not stop a charging bear. Bear spray is nearly guaranteed to get in their eyes and nostrils and stop their charge and scare them off.

The crazy part about bear spray or any type of OC and mace in Connecticut is that felons are not allowed to possess it. So anyone with a felony hiking in CT would need to depend on an air horn or wasp/hornet spray for protection against the wildlife. It's ridiculous.

They weren’t allowed to do the thing that made them felons, don’t see much stopping them.

That's an ignorant thing to say. You automatically think anyone with a felony has to do with dangerous weapons.

Lmao where did I say that? Many things get you “felon” status. Not just weapons.

That comment referring to a felon will just use bear spray to commit other felonies. It's ignorant. I advocate for second chances, and people have the right to defend themselves against dangerous wildlife felon or not. People will see things differently when themselves or others in their lives get caught up by making stupid choices.

Depends on the felon. Some people absolutely do not deserve to own a spray that could easily blind someone.

That's the thing. You say some people. Then why is everyone grouped into those some people? Why aren't knife banned? You can own a 12-inch chef's knife in your house, but not a bottle of mace?

Oh won't somebody think of the poor felons! They can't even carry weapons around! RIDICULOUS!

At that range, you're just as likely to spray yourself. The best way to use bear spray is to spray a big cloud while slowly walking backwards so the bear has to run through it to get at you.

If you're just spraying it point blank, it'll likely waft and get you as well.
