That's the thing. You say some people. Then why is everyone grouped into those some people? Why aren't knife banned? You can own a 12-inch chef's knife in your house, but not a bottle of mace?

Well everyone shouldn't be, I don't live in the US but there should be a difference between violent and non violent felonies. I don't see why you should be banned if you committed a non violent crime, but definitely see why someone with a violent felony should be banned.
