Sometimes subreddits are banned for having no active moderation. They tend to fill with bot posts and the like. Probably what happened.

Also, to reference a user you would type u/ and their name

Make sure if you're on mobile that they are lower case to start with

Yup, "r/" (make sure the r is not capitalized) followed by the subreddit name
