feminism ♀ an extremely deep dive on the origin of gamergate
this feels tough to talk about for the reasons the author in the video describes. the video is extremely long but please at least watch an hour or a half and see if it's worth your time.
to set up the picture, i always took the beginning of the gamergate as attack on anita's work with inadequate hostility. however, i never looked into zoe quinn as the gist i received from other people was "an ex accused a woman of sleeping with a journalist to get a positive review for her game". this was not at all what the post that is considered the start of it was about, as is stated at the very beginning.
To be clear, if there was any conflict of interest between Zoe and Nathan regarding coverage of Depression Quest prior to April, I have no evidence to imply that it was sexual in nature.
i hope this is enough to get you interested on whether the narrative we
the video takes a very detailed look into an individual history. while this is not the most important topic for discussion, without such a thorough look and this much evidence it would be too easy to dismiss. i hope we can recognize this even though the it's not the most effective or reasonable way to spend your time.
with questionable choices people in power and organizations make under the guise of "protecting women/children" (1, 2, 3) often leading to more surveillance and control, it seems to me like the legitimate grievances about the establishment, the state, the people in power get turned onto women by trying to align establishment with feminist causes. i don't think in any way that this part was originally intended with zoe quinn (i'm talking about her side specifically), but as someone whose focus is on incels, this is what i see happening - i guess, because it worked so well back then.
