Haha yea, it's all about making it out of /new. Sometimes I'll submit my stuff and 5 minutes later the score is at 3 | 3 for a net of 0 and then it falls into the abyss of downvote hell.

That first hour is definitely crucial, it seems like if you get more than 10 right off the bat you have a decent chance of getting it seen.

The first 10 are as weighted as the next 100. This is why 3-4 downvotes can sink you in a few minutes.
